Great place
This airport being the bigger of the two international airports in Malawi is situated in the capital city, Lilongwe. The airport as per third world country is above par. The staff is always helpful and there is a welcome feeling when you land in Malawi. The airport is about half an hours drive from the city centre but due to traffic it may take even one and a half hours to reach. Its better to reach early so as not miss the flight. There are private taxis available from the airport and it is better to have the local currency changed at the airport so as to pay the taxi driver. At this airport there is a prayer room for Muslims to say their salaat. No free WiFi but you can always buy the airtime at the airport.
Domestic departures don’t have luggage scanning machine - the staff will literally flip through all your belongs including opening your wallet and anything has zippers on. No privacy or whatsoever. Really inefficient and uncomfortable. But it doesn’t make the screening perfect - they should really invest in machine to ensure security and privacy. International departures aren’t much of issues if I remember correctly but they still open your bags even if you pass the screening just fine.
Limited services and space
Excellent tiny airport of the world
