Surprise! That lava tunnel is quite accessible with stone-built stairs that lead down a spiral into a dark, water-bearing cave. The water is very clean and very cold to the touch: when your eyes are adapted to the dark, you may see shrimps in the water!

A very appropriate place to demonstrate how water from above ground (rain) percolates/filtrates through the various soil layers to end underground - which is why you must NEVER throw away oily substances carelessly.

Final, and essential note: the entrance main gate of the place is located on the main road itself, not in the side roads as wrongly indicated by the directional signs on either side of the main road.

It's not very big and can get crowded at times. It is a 'small' cave you can visit and where you can have some relaxing time.

It's a cave. You'll be done in 30 seconds. It's free to access. Happiness is expectation management.

Impressive lava tube cave with great access in a small reserve. Steps right down to the crystal clear water. Definitely worth a visit, even if you are not a geologist (I am). I was told the tube goes right out to the sea. If you are interested in geology also go and see the old lava flows on the coast a bit further south (Poste de Lafayette public beach). The two things may well be associated - same volcanic event - found a reference suggesting an age of 26,000 years.

This is a Natural Cave. There is a main Road passes on the roof top of the cave. Thousands of Vehicles pass on through this road daily since hundred of years, but still the roof of the Cave resist the loads. As it was being used only by Ladies for washing line purpose, it has been named " LA CAVE MADAME". It is well known Cave in Mauritius. It is found in Roches Noires village where there are dozens of caves with water. It is said there was a Mermaid living in this cave. Now it is an attractive place for the local Citizens as well as for Tourists.
