Although this very small reserve is the probably the best accessible wildlife watching location in Mauritius it is quite limited, with only a handful of the surviving endemic species, and does not compare well with similar reserves in the Seychelles or elsewhere. The staff are helpful but lack any real depth of knowledge about the wildlife. They clearly receive limited training.

It is only possible to access this protected island by a guided tour organised by the Mauritian wildlife foundation. We took the short boat ride from Pointe Jerome and entered the island full of lush endemic vegetation. The guide was very informative and took great care that we could spot the endangered wild birds living in the island. Despite of a rain shower shortening the tour, we were able to see the pink dove, olive white-eye and Mauritian fody, as well as the giant tortoises roaming freely around the forest. There is also a small museum and a gift shop, the profit of which goes to the wildlife protection work. A strongly recommended place for all nature lovers and bird enthusiasts.

The most peaceful place on earth for me !!! Pure bliss . But one thing that made me really sad were the corals. They've completely lost their colour !!! Soo sad .

We had a fantastic time. The visit was really educational and we learnt a lot despite being born in Mauritius. A truly enjoyable experience and one which I won't mind doing again. Kudos to the tour guide.

An enriching experience! Definitely a place for all ages (but mind you it is a walking experience). The guides are real pros!
I have learned a lot about Mauritius's fauna and flora, the importance of preservation, a bit of history and had loads of fun spotting the Pink Pigeon, geckos, Cardinal fody and giant tortoises
We were even taught a lesson about respecting boundaries by a female Cardinal fody 😂
This island has lots of secrets to share!

Fantastic place to hangout in mauritius. The places are really very very nice :) and you can even go snorkling and diving at some places and you don't need toknow swimming for them Which is really cool.

Amazing reserve, amazing staff. Our guide was very passionate and professional. Wild life including the flora was interesting to observe. Long live big daddy and mr. zoidberg - the coolest turtles.

Very good insight into original Mauritius Flora and Fauna , where these are preserved and protected - on a small island. BUY the small pamphlet called 'The Native Plants and Animals of Mauritius' by the The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation. Easy to to read, indentify and assimilate.

Worth the trip. Have stayed around the corner from this island all 4 times I have been to Mauritius without going there. Was surprised by how pleasant it was. You get there by boat which is an added bonus. Recommend it. Great for kids too.

You don't get a 4.7 rating for nothing. I love the island, and for me being a birder it is a paradise.

Decent tour, get to see wild turtles and pink pigeon, tour guides speak English, French etc depending on what you request, buy tickets at the hut place between mahebourg and pointe d'esny, think they have around 4/5 tours a day. Very informative but you can hire a private boat to get to the island.

Sad need to pay a special fee to enter but normal since it's a reserve and they want to protect it.
    Worth the visit ;)
