Very happy with the service of Sixt. They gave me great service and are very responsive, they exchanged a car for me when I asked for it. Sacha thank you for your great service. Keep up the good work!
Nice customer service. The agent was willingly replying each and every question we had. The car itself was expensive for what we'd spend on a rental for a week. But having on mind we had the ultra full package of casco and self risk insurance, and the car being automatic, I believe the price might have been reasonable. We were the only customers at the Sixt kiosk. It was a rather quick and painless experience. However, the key delivery and the whole handover process that happened afterwards was somehow slow and uncoordinated. They accept debit cards as well which is a big bonus for those without a credit card.
Since posting my original review, Sixt has been in touch with me, apologized and payed back the 150,- euro fee wrongly charged for the damaged mirror.
Therefore I've amended my review from 1 star to 3 stars. Why?
+ The car itself (though not exactly the model we had ordered it was a relatively similar model) was in good shape and clean.
+ The staff was mostly friendly and helpful.
+ The price was good.
+ The online booking process was easy and fast.
- The hassle about the broken mirror was totally unnecessary. It was very clear that this was covered by the insurance we took but the employee still made us pay for the mirror. The last thing you want at the end of your holiday is having a fight with the employee of a car rental company and leaving the country feeling ripped off. This made our holiday end on a very sour note. This is the main reason I'm only giving 3 stars instead of 4 or 5.
- The choice of insurance packages in the booking process is a bit in-transparent. This could be simplified and made more transparent for the customer.
- The staff was unable to tell when the 200,- euro deposit that was blocked on my credit card (for eventual speeding or parking tickets) would be unblocked again. That's not very reassuring.
Note to Sixt: Please make sure your employees know the details of the insurance packages and teach them to act more professionally when problems arise and there's a disagreement with the customers over the insurance. Also you might want to reconsider the content of the different insurance packages to make it easier for the customers to chose which package might suit them best.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES! RIP-OFF!!!
We had rented a car for five days at a decent price and we took the additional Collision Damage Waiver with an excess of 0,00 Euros to be on the safe side. The guy who handed over the car didn’t go through the existing damages as he said it didn’t matter, we were covered for all damages anyway.
During our trip, one of the outer mirrors was damaged (mirror glass broken, no other damage). On returning the car, the clerk doing the handover claimed that the mirror was not included in the Collision Damage Waiver. The mirror would only be covered by an additional Tire and Windshield Protection. He called someone and then charged us 150,00 Euros!!!! We went to the Sixt office in the airport to complain but the employee there said he couldn’t do anything. Our argument, that the conditions for the Tire and Windshield Protection explicitly NOT mention the mirrors, was not taken into account. The guy was very friendly but absolutely useless (he tried to make one call, explained something in Maltese for 30 seconds and then claimed that he couldn't do anything and that we would have to complain to Sixt in Germany). He didn’t even write down our personal details or contract number to look into things later. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to take things further as our plane was waiting for us.
This is TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL and amounts to SCAM!
Until now, we were regularly renting cars with Sixt in Germany, but we will definitely switch to another car rental service in the future because this type of behaviour towards customers is absolutely not acceptable. One star is still too much for this place. Don’t take your customers as cash-cows or you will lose them forever!
Bye, Sixt!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! RIP-OFF!!!
PS: To make things worse: We had to fill in a form for the insurance with all the details of the damage. So probably Sixt will get the mirror replaced at zero cost by the insurance.
PPS: Tried to reach the customer service of Sixt in Germany by phone. The phone number is virtually impossible to find on their website (they only accept questions and complaints via a web form). Then I spent 45 minutes in a waiting line until I gave up.

Car was in great condition. People were efficient and explained everything. Have used Sixt since 1977 and always have been satisfied with car and service.
In my eyes this is the best car rental in Malta: Very good service, friendly and efficient staff, reliable cars and fair rental conditions. Had so many bad experiences with other car rentals where I had endless discussions about extra insurance or was charged for the 21st scratch on the bumper (where 20 already existed before) or had to wait half an hour to pick up the car that I am happy to have discovered Sixt.
