A great experience doing the circular train trip, get to see all of Yangon and different areas. You will be surprised what you see in terms of trash, plastic and waste, it’s so sad, going in to rivers and of course into the oceans. I have never seen such a place with trash and plastic problems. The railway is an enjoyable trip and a great cultural experience for only 200 kyats (20 pence) 3.5 hours in total.

Interesting architecture on the outside, but a rundown mess on the inside. It's tourist-friendly in the sense that entrepreneuring young children will be eager to help get people to right ticket counter and platform.

Challenging experience getting tickets for the train ride. The actual train ride is even more challenging. Shaky trains with item falling apart along the ride. The actual time of arrival is definitely way later than whats on schedule, definitely not the most efficient travel method. I would probably never do it again though it's a very interesting one time experience and great way to explore the country.

Fantastic local experience. The circle line train for 200 Kyat was the nicest experience. A full loop takes 3 hours but you pass some lovely (and interesting) scenery, get to speak to friendly locals and buy snacks from the train vendors. Definitely support the sellers! Buy everything you can. It's their livelihood and its all super tasty, from fruits to noodles and samosas.

This gritty and cantankerous train ride was my favourite experience while in Yangon. The circular train ride brings you around the city in an ambling 3 hours for 200 kyats. Children and adults move in and out of the cars selling their wares at each stop so one is never in need of food, drink or fruit! The trains are old refurbished Japan Rail trains with posters and announcements preserved from their former era, still rumbling along proudly now in a wholly different country.

If u want to enjoy Yangon circular, u can see my photos Go to platform 7 and u can buy ticket there. The price is 200 ks for round trip. Duration is about 3 hrs. And u can enjoy ur trip.

We took a ride on Yangon's Circular Railway from Insein Station to rub shoulders with the rural folks and experience their way of life on the train. The train is old, run-down, and slow. Yet it seemed to serve as a lifeline for the Burmese who ply their wares on the train and/or use it to access Yangon. Being familiar with JR Rails and its clean and spick-and-span image, it was a little shocking and strange to see the run-down train carriages, the JR logo and Japan-Myanmar partnership flag. Glad though to experience this before modernisation kicks in.

The building itself is captivating. If you have a lot of time to spare, do take their circular train! It only costs 200kyats, and please proceed to the platform straight and there is a booth that sells the tickets. The staff speaks english, no worries there. Just beware of some scams around. The entire trip will take up to 3 hours, and you will get to see the daily lives of the locals, awesome scenery, not the entire time of course. Bring ample water with you and maybe some snacks. There are some locals board the train selling water and some fruits if you like.

Yangon Central Railway Station

Yangon Central Railway Station is located in downtown Yangon, is the largest railway station in Myanmar.

Myanma Railways aimed to upgrade Yangon railways station to become as an international standard in order to provide more convenience and comfort to passengers.

Myanma Railways aimed to construct modern buildings which will include the business operations, multi stories buildings etc.

Myanma Railways called tender for drawing the design, building, to operate the plan for Yangon Railway Station comprehensive development in 2014. But no companies met the requirements of Myanma Railways.

On August 7, 2015, Myanma Railways announced officially and invited local and international companies who are interested in the project through state’s owned newspaper. The companies who want to cooperate with Myanma Railways can propose the Expression of Interest started from August 7, 2015.

The project area is located in the eastern side of Sule Pagoda, Bogyoke Aung San Road and Bo Minyaung Road, Mingalartaung Nyunt Township with an area of about 63 acres.

The estimated cost for the project is US$2.5 billion according to Myanma Railways.

The transportation mechanism will be developed in coming soon.

Like most colonial buildings in Yangon, this one is architecturally beautiful but is visibly rundown and unkempt. Ticketing is pretty straightforward but signs and announcements are inadequate. There aren't plenty of food options so bring your own provisions.

Ramshackle, atmospheric but absolutely efficient. Had no trouble at all buying my pre-dawn ticket for the bumpy nine-hour run to Mawlamyine. One of my most memorable train trips, ever.

circle train is ok. they have english speaking enquiries desk. the train is a normal slow moving suburban train, the expeeience is about seeing the villagea all along the railroad. and the piles of trash right next to the place where they live. try the food from the sellers on the train, corn cob, boiled eggs, betel nut

If you have some time in Yangoon, take a roundtrip with local train and enjoy watching local everyday life. It is fun! We bought some food and refreshments before getting on the train, but there is no need to. There is always a lot of people selling a lot of things on board! :D

Took the circular train 2 weeks ago, 200 kyat.

Find the left most entrance, mention to the officers at the gate about circular train, they will let you pass the gate without any ticket. Or you can also find the main entrance, and ask for the direction of the gate at the information counter (the officers spoke fluent English).
After entering the gate then you need to take the stairs on your left and walk along the overpass to reach platform 7 (at the end, below right) to buy the ticket.
The next train departure time will be displayed at the counter. If you see 2 times displayed, it means you can choose either clock wise circular or anti clock wise.
The officer at the counter can speak sufficient English, so you should ask the officer where you should wait for the train. In my case the officer personally called us and directed us to the train when the train arrived at platform 7 (some mentioned the trains arrived at different platforms).
Please keep the ticket with you along the journey, there will be an inspection on the train itself and when you exit the platform.

The train took 3 hours. No AC but the wind is enough to cool me. I enjoyed the sceneries, nothing spectacular, but I could witness suburbs and rural areas conveniently. Please understand the houses next to the railway belong to the poor, so the houses do not represent all the houses in the areas. You can see better built houses from afar.

It will be more enjoyable if your phone has GPS and you can access the Google map.

The journey is not too long or too short. Just enjoyable if you are the observable type. Oh the busy markets!

Took sleeper train from Mandalay to Yangon with my friends. As we started with a super low expectation for the train, we were amazed by the facilities of our upper class sleeper cabin (there were USB charging points!). If you wish to experience 20th century train journeys, enjoy the scenery of various parts of Myanmar and watch the sunrise/sunset on the train, you need to take this train!

Warning: if you're a light sleeper or scared of insects, this bumpy, noisy, 13 hours train journey may not be the one for you.
