Here's my two cents of my experience with Sandalwood Hotel:-
About the hotel
1. I noted that I will be arriving early and I really appreciate the early check-in and the room is ready!
2. All the staff are friendly, kind and helpful which make my stay very pleasant. Though most of them I would need to use sign language (as they have limited understanding of English), I believe they have trying their best to help. There is once the manager used her own hotspot as the WiFi signal is weak (it is a norm at certain timing in Myanmar) to help the travelers to book their airline ticket, kudos!
3. The breakfast is healthy, delicious and should able keep you full until lunch time.
4. My room is spacious!
5. They also provided me welcoming drink, in the hot afternoon after "officially" check-in.
6. Attentive hotel manager and assist us to book for boat trip and trip to Taunggyi.
7. As with the name "hotel", most people will tend to have a bit of higher expectation. If they drop the "hotel" and change to "guest house", the rating might be higher. Anyhow, they only have about 27 rooms.
Area of improvement:-
1. I need to wait about 5 minutes before the hot water supply reach my room and it is kind of waste of water as it flow into drain for such long. This is an area they really need to look into.
2. I would really encourage the staff to receive some language training.
3. Electric kettle or thermos would be really helpful.
4. Invest in maybe 2 washing machine and 2 dryers perhaps.
Hotel location and surrounding
1. This is what makes this hotel worth the value to stay.
2. Located near the river, ~ 2 minutes walking
3. Located near to restaurants, ~ 1 minutes walking
4. Near to a temple, ~ 2 minutes walking
5. Near to night market, ~ 4 minutes walking
6. In short, really good area!
Wonderful hotel, I spend there 3 joyful days in November 2017 with my friend. Everyone in the hotel was super friendly and helpful. The location was also very good. The manager of the hotel spoke English and put efforts to make sure we have a great time and see all what we want to see.
I spend four wonderful days in this hotel. Staff really friendly and very good room. Just problem, sometimes no WIFI or really weak, but this is a problem in all Myanmar. Price is really cheap considering the quality of room. I recommend to anybody.
Good location, room with nice balcony. During my stay the internet was not working.
Very good hotel and good facilities.
Expensive for what it was, we had a window overlooking the corridor in spite of the hotel being empty and there was no kettle in the room. It was however conveniently close to the jetty and restaurants/bars.
The hotel was a bit overpriced for what it was, due to its location. It's near the jetty, not to far from the city center. The room is quite large with working AC, we didn't have a proper window, but one that looks out onto the corridor. No kettle in the room. The lobby is not AC, so be prepared for scorching heat. Breakfast was fine, we had a fresh papaya juice and some European style food. They provide free bicycles, which is convenient to go to the city center or even the vineyard. Staff was helpful though (they can book boat trip, bus ticket, etc). No credit card, but there are ATM near it.
