A must-play course in Yangon and perhaps the best in Myanmar. Located within an exclusive real estate property in city, the golf club exudes luxury and elegance.
The unique changing room design gets your attention from the get-go. Lockers are clustered in small numbers for privacy, with lots of local wood in use. Shower rooms and toilets are spacious and well appointed.
Once on the course, you will be impressed by the playability and the scenery all around. Although we stopped play due to heavy rain, thunder and lightning in the air, the soil drained well when we resumed.
This has to be one of the few courses that has water features in all 18 holes, though not all are in play. Serves to pump up course aesthetics, at the same time, giving golfers a calming effect. I can imagine teeing off at dawn with the morning mist rising over the waters and the soft dew reflecting the first rays of sunrise truly idyllic.
The greens come mostly in size XL which makes it easier to regulate. But such happiness can be short-lived as green speed is above 9 with undulations giving double breaks. Hole 17 green even has a deep valley right of the pin. Putting from here requires enough strength to go up the steep valley wall but not too much so as to catch the downward slope for gravity to take over and roll the ball with a severe left break to hole it. One particular lady golfer achieved this more than 30 feet away to earn herself a free beer. Cheers LK!
Food at the clubhouse restaurant did not disappoint. The beef noodles came with generous cubes of tender meat bobbing in a broth that is light but flavourful, topped with bean sprouts, basil and cilentro. The braised pork knuckle was smothered in a thick, dark, well-balanced piquant gravy with a hint of chilly; goes so well with white rice. The soft gelatinous parts break away easily leaving meat that is still firm to the bite.
Pun Hlaing is a golf course that makes Yangon proud, and so would any golfer who plays here.
The best golf course in Myanmar
