The stupa was getting a new coating of gold, so was wrapped in something. That made it all look a little less spectacular. But you could still go inside and see the golden walls and all. That was a nice experience, since not a lot of these stupas are open for visitors. There are many other temples and shrines on the compound, so you can easily fill some time wandering around there. After sunset all the gold gets lit up and shiny, which makes for some nice pics

Amazing, even though this place was under renovation while I visited but I feel that how important of this pagoda to Myanmar people. Have a lot of people came here for praying and pay the respect to the Buddha ‘s hair that keep inside the pagoda. You allowed to came inside the pagoda too, the wall made from gold plate . You’ll see people praying here because this place make you feel closely to the Buddha . Outside the Pagoda have Golden Buddha statue in the Main hall on the right , this statue used to be in the Mandalay Palace . And in the small hall on the left is Nat Bo Bo Gyi ( the guardian spirit) that I saw people come for praying for a wish they believe that the spirit will make a wish come true.

Nice experience in that Botahtaung had a nice pagoda atmosphere for the tourist combined with an active crowd of the faithful. Much better experience than Sule. Ropes guide visitors through the central complex which supposedly holds a hair of the Buddha. Undergoing construction where you can see them building a sizeable stupa, pools and other things for the site. And yeah, I was a little nervous about leaving my very shoes in an unguarded place.

Not as polished as Shwedagon but a more authentic local experience. Chaotic, noisy and dirty. The walk through the labyrinth inside the pagoda is not to be missed. The hall of mirrors to the north of the pagoda is worth seeing also. Spend some time soaking up the atmosphere outside the temple also.

One of the most famous historic pagoda in Myanmar with great ancient architecture can be seen. Shine in day and bright in night as different nice views. A good place to develop concentration, esp in early morning and at night, basing on pure morality. This is also a nice place to focus on the recollection of The Buddha such as total free from defilements and teaching pupils to free from defilements, to get powerful concentration. After homage to The Buddha, we can do walking exercise near the pagoda along the river bank.

Actually, this pagoda is re-build and original ancient pagoda is damaged by boom when word war II. Historic ancient pagoda and it is build same year as Great Shwe Dagon Pagoda. New river side with quiet place is good for meditation. Also have most famous Buddha Image which is come back from Great Britain.

Botahtaung pagoda is one of the symbolic pagoda to visit. Crowded with locals and foreigners especially Thai people. Many Thai are visiting the Bo Bo Gyi’s shrine for good luck. Entrance fee 6000 kyats per pax. Ladies has to cover up their legs with pants or cloth.

Pagodas are favorite places of Myanmar People. As for foreigner there would be entrance fee per person. Since the pagoda land is covered by tile, it is a great idea to visit at cool time of the day I mean like morning and evening.
