Arriving late with our family to the Marriott hotel, we were recommended this family run Italian restaurant. One of the staff came to pick us up in his SUV, it was a quick 3 min ride over. Food was flavourful and serving sizes were ample. Service was pleasant. Our bill at the end was pretty severe (over 200 EU) for a family of four consisting of 2 adults, and 2 kids under 5. Considering this was our 1st night, we really don't have comparisons and were too tired to search around

We had some of the best food on our trip at Amici Miei.
The pasta was home made.
This is a family owned and run restaurant.
They were very attentive but not overbearing.

If you stay at the nearby Marriott hotel, they will likely suggest you come here for dinner - the restaurant even operates a shuttle service back and forth to the hotel. I'm normally healthily sceptical of this kind of unsolicited recommendation, but it was a Sunday evening so lots of places were closed, we were tired and didn't want to go too far, and this seemed like an easy option.
To be honest I wished I had trusted my instincts, as this was probably the most disappointing meal of our trip. The lady who I assumed to be the owner was quite pushy and tried to get us to order more, which I can't remember ever experiencing before in any restaurant anywhere in the world, particularly not in Italy. Partly this was an issue of internationalisation. The Italian concept of "primi piatti" / "secondi piatti" doesn't always translate very well, here they referred to their primi piatti, which included pasta dishes, as "starters". So when my wife just wanted to have a pasta dish, and share it with our 4 year old daughter, the lady actually objected, and said it wasn't enough. My wife attempted to compromise by suggesting she make a large portion, which lead to further objections. The lady eventually gave in and allowed my petite wife and 4 year old daughter - neither of whom have a huge appetite - to share a pasta dish, which turned out to be ample for them.
When I said I was a vegetarian the lady rolled her eyes as that obviously meant I also would not be ordering a secondi piatti, these all being meat and fish. I did cave in to pressure and agree to order an artichoke salad on the side, which I didn't really want. This was a plate of raw artichoke, which to be honest is rather woody and not really to my taste, with lettuce leaves and Parmesan shavings but no dressing. I didn't really enjoy it. My pasta dish - the mezzalune with porcini and truffle, was also rather disappointing - it was drenched in cream which an Italian friend told me once is a common trick at cheekier restaurants when they want to add richness to the dish to compensate for the paucity or poor quality of the mushrooms. I know it's Monaco but 28 Euros seemed poor value for some average fresh pasta, covered in cream, with a few small morsels of porcini (presumably not fresh) and the influence of truffle only in the form of truffle oil as far as I could tell - there was certainly none visibly apparent.
The wine was also just plain bad, somehow we ended up ordering a Cote de Provence white. I left about half the bottle at the end, I just didn't want any more.
Despite our "frugal" ordering (in the eyes of the owner) the meal came to over 100 Euros. We could have better food for half that price in any number of Italian restaurants in London, with a much less pushy attitude from the staff. We've also found better Italian food in Monaco at a number of other Italian restaurants which were much better value for money (Lo Sfizio, Il Terrazzino, Mozza, Miami Plage, even the cafe at the Oceanographic Museum).
Yes the location is nice, in a fairly sleepy harbour in a bit of a backwater of Monaco, with views up to the rock and the Prince's palace, but that really is all this place has going for it.response / report this review -

decent food but way too expensive. 45 euros for a seabass fillet, €5 for about 100 ml (half a glass!) of orange juicewas recommended this place by the hotel receptionist (it seems this is a common theme). Never again.
