Le Librarie des Colonnes is the premiere bookshop in Tangier that has been on the Boulevard Pasteur in downtown Tangier, Morocco since it opened in 1949.

Literary icons from Tangier's past and New authors have passed through its door: Paul Bowles, Jane Bowles, Mohamed Choukri, Mohammed Mrabet, Tennessee Williams, William Burroughs, Jean Genet and others.

Le Librairie des Colonnes has been managed by a series of people: Isabel and Yvonne Gérofi, Rachel Muyal and currently Simon-Pierre Hamelin. The bookshop underwent a major renovation about 10 years ago after it was bought by the business partner of designer and philanthropist Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Berge, who had purchased two residences in Tangier.

The bookshop is very attractive, though not huge, and it is well run, organized and dignified in appearance, and still very popular. Residents and tourists alike regularly flock here to buy books. The Librairie des Colonnes has a good selection of books in various languages: mainly French, but also some Spanish and English, and a few in Arabic.

Très belle librairie. L'une des meilleures de Tanger. Excellent service.

Beautiful library. One of the best in Tangier. Mainly French books and literature. Some English books. Possibility to order books by phone or email. Fidelity program.
