Da Roumana is gorgeous. The dining room is sumptuous and is the epitome of an “Arabian Night’s” experience. Unfortunately, beautiful design does not make a great restaurant. That’s the responsibility of the kitchen, and the cooking at Da Roumana is just mediocre.

In a room filled with well heeled tourists, there is a hushed reverence due to the striking Moroccan design. Incongruous music from the fifties, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, reverberated throughout our meal. It was very jarring, and the room cried out for traditional Moroccan music. Service was rushed during high season, but tried their very best. Perhaps the music helped them move fast. “Splish Splash”

Food was “continental,” not Moroccan. The meat and seafood offerings were typical of any fine dining restaurant, sea bass, lamb, filet mignon, etc. Everything tasted okay, but nothing special. In every american city I can eat the same food. Maybe it’s special in Morocco or to the French and British tourists, but if I closed my eyes, I could be in Milwaukee. We were disappointed and Da Roumana ain’t cheap!

The design and decor are fabulous at Dar Roumana. Too bad the food fell flat.

Very nice riad with excellent food. The lamb meatballs were amazing as well as the carrot soup. Some of the rooms are beautiful - very large and spacious (my friend’s room). My room, on the top floor was dated, slightly stained bedding and dozens of ants. Service was great and the hotel has amazing robes. Staff is good and the location is excellent but a bit difficult to find.

Great rooms and an excellent restaurant. The bread was spectacular and every dish we had was well balanced and presented well. The food is not the traditional tagine, or even Moroccan, but Modern contemporary. That said, this was the best restaurant we found in Fez, much better that the La Ammandie at the Palace Faraj hotel!

nice place to stay. they met us outside the Walls and escorted us to their place. friendly and helpful, spoke English. served us tea and gave us a map of the city with brief explanations. Not close to the exciting center city, but walkable. Interior is beautiful. spectacular views of Fes from rooftop terrace, especially at sunset. Dinner was a bit pricy, but nice. bathroom had a slight sewer odor, as all of Morocco did. They arranged henna and arranged a drive tour for us including Volubilis, Mouley Idriss, and Meknes and to the airport.

Very beautiful place. As for the restaurant though: When we were there the food was not very inspired. Unbalanced dishes, rather international and not locally inspired, and far too expensive for that.

Just excellent dinner with an apéro at the cheminée! It is worth the price with a menu of two or three courses. Just follow google map and don't believe some locals saying it is closed! Good luck.
