Fabulous hotel. WiFi didn’t really work that well but the rest was great. Staff fairly helpful. Breakfast was great. Rooms very spacious and clean. Great location, close to the medina. Would stay again

Stayed at barcelo with my family for a about week and booked 4 rooms. Everyone had a similar experience, whether in large suites or standard double rooms.
The general cleanliness of the hotel is mediocre, lobby and hallways look clean but rooms are dusty and hair can be found in most places you look, sheets are often stained. The tap was hanging off the wall in the bathroom and staff have a habit of walking into room without knocking to refill the 'mini bar' (2 small bottles of water). One of the rooms was covered in cobwebs and I asked reception about 5 times to clean the room as we were staying for a week. Its also quite clear that the floor is rarely cleaned and walking around with no shoes on in the room will leave feet black.
I was disappointed by the cleanliness as I had just stayed at Dar Aliane (a riad slightly less expensive but not as well situated) that was absolutely immaculate.
Other than that, the staff at the café and restaurant are very helpful, especially evening staff.
Staff at reception are also very nice they just never get anything done. Anything from booking a taxi to cleaning a room, an extra towel or paying the bill is effort and be prepared to spend half an hour at reception. You can't just ask them to do something once, you have to beg.
If you're staying for more that 1 night and want a stress free experience I would recommend the sahrai hotel, more expensive but worth the money. If you're willing to venture out a bit (5 mins down the road) and don't want to pay sahrai prices, I would recommend Dar Aliane (rooms on upper floor) rooms are spacious and simple but very clean and staff are lovely, very modest from outside and lobby but deserves its 4 stars. For disabled access barcelo and sahrai are best bet.
We complained and Spanish director was very helpful, shame about his staff being a bunch of clowns.
Would recommend for a short stay but don't expect a 4 star experience from the staff or the rooms.response / report this review -

I spent 4 wonderful nights at Baracello-Fes, everything is clean, I felt being in few of Europe hotels where I was based before. I have two comments to make:
(1) Being from Marrakech and seeing a lot of similarities with Fes old downtown, I felt a need to see old-fashion and Moroccan cultural-designs - styles missing inside Barecelo-Fes, to remind me about what I know about few hotels I love in Marrakech, like Sofitel-Marrakech. It would be very creative and charming to have Barcelo-Fes’ inside places with beautiful Moroccans cultural-designs -assets. This would make it further exceptional mixing and harmonizing the already existing European style and the available and rich Moroccan ones.
(2) Have the personal during breakfast time (my own experience) not repeating the same sentences when approaching-talking with the clients who want to rest enjoying their meals. Warm services should be delivered without imposing to clients to talk when served and surtout repeating the same sentences.
Over all: I spent a wonderful – warm 4 nights at Barcelo-Fes … I will be back again, that’s for sure! I would encourage my friends from Boston/USA to be based at Baracelo-Fes.response / report this review -

Hotel Terrible. They cancelled my transfer to the airport, waited 90mins in reception, but didn't tell me so I missed my flight! Went to the loo and the doorhandle fell off and blocked with tissue as usual. Not good with English or French, just smile at you anyway. Morrocans like to please?!

My family and I were greeted by Mr. Jaouad, the hotel manager, who was very welcoming and polite. He helped us to check in very quickly to our rooms earlier than scheduled, which was a great help. The rooms are equipped with basic toiletries, a kettle (teabags and cups too), two chairs, a writing desk, luggage support table, blackout drapes and sun deflecting net curtains, flat screen LED tv (with a variety of channels), an in-room safe and plenty of storage space. There is also a fancy room divider which was a nice touch. Wifi on the 4th floor was intermittent during our stay but was corrected on the day of our checkout. Unfortunately the swimming pool was closed for maintenance, mainly due to the winter season (despite it being a lot warmer than our native London). There is a gym room on the first floor which is clean and nice to use. Location is perfect! There are a string of cafes and restaurants in the local area, including the Borj Fes shopping centre. Taxis are aplenty and it's a quick 5 minute drive to Bab Boujeloud and the same to the train station. Hotel staff were very courteous and polite, this coupled with room amenities, price and location, make this an ideal place to stay for tourists (families and solo adventurers alike). Hotel Barceló Medina Fez: A Simple Place Close to Old Medina
On my way to Marrakech, I spent a couple days recuperating from a journey that I loved so much.
I stayed in Hotel Barceló Medina in Fez. This is a four star hotel and it has all the amenities’ you would need, such as Wi-Fi, safe in the room, business center, and fitness center. The hotel offers numerous dining choices. A cafe is located on-site as well as a jazz bar. A more formal place is the Azahar international bistro.
Room service is available 24 hours.
It is a beautiful hotel and the guest rooms are adorned with chic decor inflections and fashionable furnishings. Centrally positioned, the hotel is close to various national sites and attractions. I visited the Jewish Cemetery, Royal Palace and the Blue Gate is no more than two miles away. All are within walking distance and I feel safe walking with friends. Though the city is safe, I walk with others. You can also ask the hotel to fletch you a cab. For a small fee, the cab driver can take you to all places.
I like to highlight that this is a handicap friendly hotel.
Again, do remember you are in Africa so you might compare with, “back home.” Please be kind to the staff. Morocco is trying to adapt to the great of numbers of tourist coming and it is worth the trip – this country is unique!
