It was planned to be Latvian Victory park - victory in Independence war following the 1st World war. When Soviet intruders captured the place after occupation of Latvia (after the 2nd World war several German generals were publicly hanged there, ISIS-style, in propaganda stunt, giving way to hushed joke that Soviets built memorial to them) and built their self-glorifying spire. As a memorial of Soviet aggression and loss of Latvian independence the place is disliked by most Latvians, and no doubt will be demolished one day.

Wir waren am 09.Mai. dort. Es war kein Fehler, aber als Deutscher ein komisches Gefühl. Jungen Menschen haben Kriegsveteranen Blumen geschenkt. Alles sehr bewegend.

Исторический монумент. Символ прошедшей войны и смены эпох. Каждый год собирает огромное кол-во людей. В центре внимания местных политиков.
