A beautiful place with a castle from 14th century. What is awesome about this place - they have a tavern/restaurant that has the environment from the same century. Once you go in, your nose will notice the beautiful smell of a real bonfire. A great place to go if you want to travel to 14th century.

Furthermore, there is a local shop just outside that sells some food, snack and beverages for such low prices!

The castle was built in 1301 as Livonia Order fortress. It is one of the rare medieval castles, that has preserved its historical look. Nowadays at the palace together with monks you will have possibility to become a real medieval hero.

My wife and I spent five nights here whilst visiting friends in a nearby town and the stay was fantastic.

For the first three nights we expiranced three different rooms which were 'The Baron's Room', 'The Baronesses Room' and the 'White Room' all were fabulous. For our final two nights we returned to the 'Baron's Room'.

The bar/ pub is very attmospheric with candles on the tables a real log fire and medieval background music.

The food is good quality and good value as is breakfast.

Unique opportunity to stay in a real 14th century castle with many authentic features. Traditional Latvian cuisine as well as variety of other choices. So far food was the best I had during my trip this year!
