A nice local bar, possible to pay with a credit card. Has a bathroom in it, and you can even order some food there. Crowded when there are some live performances by local Latvian punk/ska bands

It's pretty atmospheric place, sporting a lot of artifacts and spirit of Soviet era, with authentic posters, pictures and appliances. A wide selection of spirits and very reasonably priced business lunches make this place an equally attractive option for both daily and nightly visit. They sometimes host small concerts and live music events.

Not quite as Soviet feeling as I expected but then again it was busy so it was hard to tell. Nothing overly special but a good bar if you want a busy and noisy atmosphere. If you aren't there to see a band be aware it will be packed during gigs.

Interesting atmosphere with nostalgia for tje soviet times. Yet something is not quite right. Very friendly bartender who barely manages to serve all, be prepared to wait to be served.

I sat next to Lenin who didn't say much, which was good. Dictators should keep quiet and be pretty. Nice atmosphere, books everywhere, friendly people.

An interesting place: I was there from about 7:00-9:00 PM on a Saturday night. Upon arrival, there were a lot of tourists but they melted away as in the first hour. Then, my son and I were the only tourists (and, non-Russian speakers, for that matter) in the bar. Everything was cool, but it definitely was a cultural experience to be in a bar where all other patrons spoke Russian. Excellent potato pancakes- made from shredded, not mashed potatoes- with flavorful local bacon. The coleslaw was quite good as well. There was a mix-up in the kitchen and I received a complementary vodka shot- much appreciated. A great experience if you are open to it.

Interesting and probably authentic Latvian-Russian-food. The solyanka surprisingly featured something we identified as chicken hearts instead of uh meat. The farmer's breakfast came loaded with meat and onions.

The place is stuffed with nostalgic items from the soviet era that matches the cold Russian attitude of the staff. They did loosen up a bit after we spent 4 hours drinking their beer and schnaps on the bar, though :) All in all we had a fun unforgettable (except for some bits and pieces we don't remember, see above) night and you will too.

Many years visiting in both old and new location. Always a interesting mix of people, honest up front bar staff and no fuss. Music, events and food great for the alternative scene. Well priced and wall to wall ironic nostalgia. Paldies!

Very nice cafe/bar located outside of the old town. Worth a visit if you like eastern nostalgica. Good and fair prices, very good burgers.
