I visited the museum 2 weeks ago and had the same experience as Tillerman. I was on Holiday and walked in carrying a DSLR camera, waited a few minutes before someone came out of an office and walked over to the cash register. Payed the entrance fee (1,60) , received my entry ticked.. and when I wanted to enter the first exhibition floor, was told Camera's where not allowed.. but, for 15 EUR (per hour!) I could bring it in and take pictures.

Having read Tillerman's review (and the museums reply to it) before walking in, I was prepared for a 3 EUR surcharge to take it with me into the museum, not 15 EUR per hour. I am not a professional photographer, nor do I, or have I ever, made money on one of my pictures. I only carried the camera, no tripod, no bags, no flash (not even a build in one). Just a DSLR with a wide-angle lens mounted on it in my hand.

After showing the review (and the museums own reaction on it) the guy still kept insisting my camera was "professional" therefore I should pay the 15 EUR fee. Even after pointing out their price structure (on their website it says "Good news for all visitors, from November 2 - taking pictures with mobile phones and compact cameras ar free!!!", while the reply from them on Tillerman's review states 3 EUR for taking pictures with a camera. (So if compact camera's are free, and dslr's cost 15 EUR according to the desk clerk, what falls under the 3 EUR category huh?).
After 5 minutes of talking back and forward, I decided it was not worth the time or effort and asked my entry fee back.. a few seconds later it was suddenly possible to use my camera for a 3 EUR surcharge.. with the added comment from the museum employee, that it was on my own conscience if I would ever try to make money with any of the pictures.

The museum itself was not bad. (considering the normal 1,60 entrance fee). Even though a lot of the planes are in rough shape and have parts missing (or a coke bottle on it to catch leaky fluids). But the extra charges are just a plain ripoff.

BEWARE! You will be charged 15 euros if you want to take pictures with anything else than a cellphone. I think that is stupid. I was in Kaunas for my holiday, I am not professional photographer. In my opinion this museum is overrating itself grossly. I did not want to pay that much for some pictures and went back to the campsite.
