  Very nice and large park. We were lucky and got to see a lot of different animals. If you are close you should go and try it out and hope you get to see some cool animals.

  Best place to watch Sri Lankan typical wild life. Sort of a crowded place, but if you plan well you can easily find a day, where with less crowd. Normally week ends are crowded with locals and the best is the weekdays.
  
  you can have 1/2 day and full day safari. I recommend a full day one as you have enough things to do inside. You can find animals early morning and late afternoon. When the dry seasons come, the park will be closed and no one can go in. Further, its difficult to find animals in the rainy period too. So, who ever willing to visit, better you check this.

  a wilderness experience for local foreign nature lovers. you can watch animals and birds in their wild habitat. good safari services.
  friendly experience guides. weekends and holidays are very crowded.

  Yala National Park is a huge area of forest, grassland and lagoons bordering the Indian Ocean, in southeast Sri Lanka. It’s home to wildlife such as leopards, elephants and crocodiles, as well as hundreds of bird species. Whole safari will take 3-4 hours for completion.

  Beautiful forest. But due to the large number of jeeps the animal often come out. I couldn't see the leopard. There are a lot of wild boars and peacocks. If you want to see elephants, Udawalawa is a much better option. However, its a fun ride. Avoid crowd so go early as possible.

  So we went there for one day and got quite disappointed. The park is over hyped and over priced
  As well. We did manage to see leopard but didn't see any elephants. Plenty of cows though. Too many Jeeps ruining the nature and wildness of the park even though we went early to park around 5 o'clock.
  Recommend leaving early as the weather is still chilled and modi chances to see leopard and other wild animals.
  Otherwise save you money and time and spend it somewhere else where you most likely will get more value from it.

  The nature is amazing there, but this safari trip was bad experience. The great amount of jeeps and fast speed made me crazy. Although I haven't seen a leopard there this is not the main reason to be disappointed.

  Yeah we seen a lot of different animals including a leopard, elephants, buffalo, boars, crocodiles, and a bunch of different birds, but the experience is hindered by the overwhelming amount of safari vehicles in your proximity at any one time. The first hour and a half you may as well be in a traffic jam. It’s a really slow start. Had we have not seen as many animals as we did ( and I’m sure a lot of people don’t) the review would have been lower. This is not a cheap activity to do so if your apprehensive about spending the money I’d suggest skipping it. If the park decreased the number of vehicles allowed into the park (and maybe didn’t let 8 seat vehicles with only 2 people in them) this could be a safari worth doing.

  Over priced and over hyped. The price is took high and for that what we get to see is a bunch of wild pigs and buffalos. Moreover we need to go to Yala for this which has nothing more than the national park. They are just trying to earn money through the hype.
  You can easily avoid going to Yala and save money for other things and importantly save time.

  Probably over hyped and over priced for foreign tourists. The Yala national park is about 90 minute drive from Hambantota area and most visitors arrive in the park between 6-7 am to ensure they get a token for the first 300 or so jeeps that will be sent into the park for the morning session. We reached by around 6.30pm and were jeep # 308. We had to wait 90 minutes after receiving token for our driver to pay the fees and enter the park.
  
  I say over hyped because there are lot of other park options (per our tour guide) where you can see lot of animals, birds and lovely scenery. Only exception being the Leopard that 5-10% of visitors get lucky to see in the Yala national park. We were one of those mostly due to our tour guide who also (Sam's tours) had a 4X4 landrover that was able to get into areas of park where we were the only jeep around (out of 400). We were lucky to see a leopard from about 10 feet for about 20 minutes after which he left.
  
  The roads within the park are very rough and its going to be a test of your necks/backs. So be prepared.
