This is going to be long because I don't have a very good feelings about this place.
On the good side, the OPD is good. Takes good care of pets and very attentive. Also, the facilities are good as well and up to standard I believe. Charges are cheap. Even though this is a government institute, the staff was good and communicative.
However, our experience wasn't good about the rest of the process. Our dog had a hernia problem and it was recommended by our vet to take him to Peradeniya which he recommended as the best place. He himself had done a surgery to correct the issue but, he could not resolve it entirely.
So, we took our dog all the way from Homagama to Peradeniya (pretty long ride, around 130 km) just because we want him to get well. We were there early around 8.45am. The hospital should have started at 9am. However, we had to wait around 1h more, because all the vets were in a meeting. To our relief, the lady vet who examined our dog was very good and attentive. She said we could put him to a proper surgery today itself, cause we have travelled so long for this. We were asked to wait to do few tests on the dog and so we waited. After around 1h there were no sign of doing any sort of test, so I went and asked around. Then only they realized that they could not perform any tests on our dog yet. And the same vet did all the tests and recommended for the surgery.
At the surgery my wife has stated clearly, that the dog has already gone under a surgery and we don't want that same surgery again because it had no effect on the dog. She asked them to do the 'mesh/net' surgery to keep the dog's falling muscles tight. They agreed and they also said they would castrate the dog, cause that would also prevent this hernia issue to re-appear. So we agreed. At the end of the surgery we discovered that they haven't done the 'mesh/net' surgery, instead they have done the same old surgery which we clearly said not to do. They have also castrated the dog. The reason given was that the platelet count was too low hence the surgery was too risky. If they could tell that earlier we would take the dog home instead of doing the same old surgery once again. We were asked to come back after a month if the issue persists. So with no other choices we went home. The dog was doing OK during around half way of the trip. I think he fainted later, so had no movement of him. So we carried him and put him on the floor. Unfortunately, after around 1h he died after suffering.

So ultimately, poor doggy died after much suffering because of an unwanted surgery, and now all of our hopes are lost. So I recommend everyone to think twice before you take your pet to this place.
