Wattapalei Amman Kovil is located in the most remote district Mullativu Sri Lanka. It is celebrating its Kovil pooja usually during the month of May. Around 100,000 devotees are expected to attend the festival each year. It is a massive structure built recently. Kovil festival starts with devotees offering god a rice based milk rice with various fruits and sweets. All those attend pooja prepares pongal by them selves. It is generating some income to the poor local folk.

All you will get good experience here in this temple. Peaceful sorrounding and the beautiful Nandhikkadal coast will make the beauty of this area. Kannagi Amman is the divinished form of the Kannagi, the heroine of the great Tamil epic Silappathikaram, worshipped mainly in Sri Lanka and Kerala. As the goddess of Chastity, Rain, fertilization, she is well praised by the Malayalis and the two main ethnicities of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan Tamil Hindus and also by the Sinhala Buddhists as Pattini Deviyo.

This is a historical Hindu temple in Sri Lanka. Every year, month of may there is Very big ceremony in this temple. During this ceremony, they take water from sea at theerththakarai, then carry that water to kaaddaa vinayagar temple and fire lame by that sea water without fuel or oil. This is a traditional and believable event during this ceremony. There is wonderful view by river and trees. This is very oldest temple now (2017) rebuilding by administration. Sinhala peoples also come and participate the pooja. We can feel very peaceful mind in this temple. All religion peoples are visiting this place.

The Vattapalai Kannakki Amman temple is a dedication for Goddess, Kannaki Amman. Significantly the temple was built in memory of the arrival of deity Kannaki to Sri Lanka. Eventually the Vattapalai Kannakki Amman temple was constructed at the place where she was seen last.
