It holds a large number of endemic species of plants and animals, and a variety of plants of known benefit to man. Sinharaja Forest Reserve is the last viable remnant of Sri Lanka’s tropical lowland rain forest; over 60% of the trees are endemic and many of these are rare; and there are 21 endemic bird species, and a number of rare insects, reptiles and amphibians (IUCN Technical Evaluation).

Could say the best rain forest in the South Asia, may be in the whole Asia one could say. Only obstacle will be the leeches. That again mainly happen in rainy days. Best and the simplest way will be to use a piece of soap.
You will be able to see many native plants, birds and many more. Very calm place and those who visiting should also maintain silence there in side. Whole journey will be just walking on bit of a rough road, but sure you will enjoy your stay there. There are nice Eco hotels at the entrance to.

Beautiful environment. But very few animals but if you're lucky u will find some rare wild animals. lots of leeches too. U can buy special socks that made to distract leeches for about Rs.300

A real jungle. Good for viewing reptiles, butterflies, birds. Mammals are seen less frequently except for the purple faced leaf monkey.

I have been to many other National Parks in Sri Lanka and visited Sinharaja Forest Reserve for the first time and it was truly an awesome experience. Had a very good time there.

Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national parkand a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rain forests ecoregion, was saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility, and was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988. The reserve's name translates as Lion Kingdom.

The reserve is only 21 km (13 mi) from east to west, and a maximum of 7 km (4.3 mi) from north to south, but it is a treasure trove of endemic species, including trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.

Because of the dense vegetation, wildlife is not as easily seen as at dry-zone national parks such as Yala. There are about 3 elephants, and 15 or so[vague] leopards. The most common larger mammal is the endemic purple-faced langur.

Birds tend to move in mixed feeding flocks, invariably led by the fearless greater racket-tailed drongo and the noisy orange-billed babbler. Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds, the 20 rainforest species all occur here, including the elusive red-faced malkoha, green-billed coucal and Sri Lanka blue magpie.

Reptiles include the endemic green pit viperand hump-nosed vipers, and there are a large variety of amphibians, especially tree frogs. Invertebrates include the endemic common birdwing, butterfly and leeches.

It's a good place to trek and also get to see crazy wildlife. There are some exotic birds which you can see while trekking. Also need to be careful as the floor of the forest has a lot of leeches which will attack you for sure.

Simply beautiful and clam. We had a walk through the unspoiled beautiful rain forest with a guide who was very knowledgeable. It was very wet so I would recommend proper walking boots and an umbrella! Managed to see some of the very rare endemic bird species .

I have visited the forest reserve couple of times for photography, however due to density of the jungle it's not easy to capture good pictures. The best way is to visit some of the local villages around the reserve. There are local guides in the area who take you around and cost about Rs 3000 for a half a day tour. You get to see a lot of birds when you visit the villages and you can be quite close to the target.

Searched for a rout from Panadura I found the way through Kalutara, Mathugama, Agalawatta, baduraliya, Kalawana, then via Weddagala Rd Weddagala to Kudawa. At the entrance we were not given a guide because we had only four people two kids and two adults. Mostly guides are assigned to foreigners who give more benefits. Though we had not a guide we were asked could you be able to manage the trekking without a guide ? I said definitely
We spent the time very freely without a risk and a doubt and we enjoyed the great pleasure when we were trekking through thick vegetation. its a wonderful place to be my kids too loved it very much.

Very good nature reserve with lots of different trekking options, covering different distances and climbing intensities. The guide we had was very knowledgeable and friendly. A great and healthy outdoor experience.
