The Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu is a Roman Catholic Marian shrine in Mannar district of Sri Lanka. With a history of over 400 years, this shrine acts as a center for pilgrimage and worship for Sri Lankan Catholics.The site is considered as the holiest Catholic shrine in the island and is a well known place of devotion for both Tamil and Sinhalese Catholics.The church has been a symbol of unity not just between Tamils and Sinhalese, but also between people of different religions, including Buddhists, Hindus and Protestants.

This is sacred place to all the Catholic community. This church had a big history and a lot of miracles has happened in this premises. So believe in God and enter the premises so your prayers will definitely be heard.

Sacred place among the Catholics of Sri Lanka. The road to the church is quite well maintained. Worth a visit even if you are not a Catholic.

Very sacred place among Catholics. Located in the middle of nowhere and for years under war church was inaccessible for most. Yet in the seasons the place fills with devotees. The church has lots of accommodation facilities for visitors.

A must visit place for any catholic. A peaceful house of prayer which has many miraculous activities located 40+ kilometers from Madawachchiya.. For accomodation there are so many houses which maintained by the church with limited basic facilities. Yet they are close to the church. Other than that, there is a good guest house which is known as the Palmyrah garden hotel which is 11 kilometers away from the church (right at the madu road runction). There is a restaurent close to the shrine which has a good selection of meals. So If you are visiting this place, do not worry about accomodation and meals.

One of the most famous Catholic churches. Most importanatly its a sort of peace monument for both Sinhalese and Tamil Catholics. For more than 20 years Sinhalese could n't visit this shrine due to Sri Lankan Civil war which ended in 2009 May.
