This is a very basic family-run sleeping place instead of a hotel at a location extremely inconvenient far from any basic store. I was booked in by some local agent for certain reason and once arrived, it was too late to change the hotel even to forfeit my payment.It is simply too remote to even book a taxi. A very long & narrow road leading to this place. You have no other place within several kms to eat. The on site kitchen only opens for half an hour from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm for dinner. A can of beer and a small portion of French fries cost 1280 Sri Lanka rupee, much more than my home city Sydney. A plate fried rice costs 900 rupees
No indoor eating place. So much mosquitoes make outdoor eating a really pain even wearing trouses and long sleeves.
No even bath anti-slippery floor towel or any such mat is provided, let alone of any other towels. I talked to the property person-in-charge that the floor towel is important for the guest safety and this is not something they should save for the reason of the cost.
The property is in an enclosed wire fence of about only the size of a couple of hundred square meters. It is by the sea but only has some glimpse of water view from window or balcony because of tall and dense trees at beachside.
The staff are friendly but they cannot do much about this.response / report this review -

I want to warn all tourists.
Be careful when booking Shanketha Palace Hotel with the function of "free cancellation".
I booked this hotel in August 2017.
I canceled the reservation on 08/20/2017. The hotel sent me a message that the booking was canceled for free.
08/21/2017 my account was lost $ 660. I wrote a letter to them. The hotel apologized and promised to return the stolen money.
12/02/2018. I have not received any money before this time.

Nice and clean place except for those flies during day time. Visited this place with my family, very friendly staff, great hospitality, loved the location of this hotel situated right next to the beach, rooms were very hygienic and clean, loved the varieties of food especially the Sri Lankan cuisine and would love to visit again in the near future.

I paid to this 1 or 2 star hotel around $26 for a stay from 2:00 am until 11:00 am not including any meal!! I appreciate them giving me one extra hour till noon, and keeping my luggage with them for 3 hours after check out. The location is good of you like to be away, and bery bad if you like to be around everything. No bottled water or coffee maker at the room. No blanket, I just covered myself with the bed sheet and turned off the AC.

This place is very silent and quite cool place. Everything is good. Beautiful view. Owner is helpfull. Room and bathroom is clean. Food is Sri Lankan and very tasty.

Great view, very peaceful location with sea and river directly in view. Spacious and clean rooms, a good way to start our holiday! Owner was very helpful and friendly. It is a bit out of town so scooter confidence would help, but if not then tuk tuks can be arranged quickly and easily.
