  Sandagiri Dagaba is a very ancient stupa constructed during the era of King Mahanaga. And considered as the oldest stupa in Southern area. A calm and quiet place. Worth visiting. There is an archaeological area 200 metres to the left of the stupa, where an ancient Buddha statue can be seen.

  Sandagiri Stupa (Dageba), constructed by King Mahanaga in 3rd Century B.C., has been renovated by King Vijayabahu I (A.D. 1055-1110). Presently the stupa stands at 60 feet and the diameter at the base is 108 feet.
  The Department of Archaeology commenced preliminary conservation work in 1987 and the Central Cultural Fund involved in the work from 2004. 360,869 special bricks were used for the conservation and the approximate cost for the conservation is Rs. 57 million.
  After conservation the complete Sandagiri Stupa will ceremonially hand over to the custodians and Buddhist devotees of the world and will be honored as the oldest stupa in the southern region.

  Ancient "Sandagiri Seya - සඳගිරි සෑය" built by king Kavantissa during 2nd century BC. Not many people visit this place today. Calm and quiet place.

  Sandagiri Stupa, situated in the Thissamaharama area, is one of the oldest stupas in Sri Lanka. Believed to have been built by King Kavantissa in the second century BC. It was noted that bricks dating back to the 2nd century BC had been found when it was initially inspected. Further investigations have proved that the initial structure had been a bigger one than which is evident today. The great wonder work of our ancestors now only have four cardinal points around the stupa and on the north side a remarkable piece of stone carving perfectly cut.
  This is a very calm and quit place to visit.
