The staff are super friendly and easy to talk to. Custom jewelry orders are placed and received quite fast and their existing jewelry are beautiful pieces! The place is comparatively small and is never too crowded, so you can browse for as long as you need and more in utter peace. Definitely the best jewelry store I’ve attended!

This is an amazing store run by an amazing family. They entertained our two toddlers while we browsed. They are very understanding of personal space and not pushy to make a sale at all. My husband's wedding ring had a chipped diamond in it and they offered to repair it for a very reasonable price. We were visiting Sri Lanka from the US and they shipped the ring back to the US when they were done repairing it. It looks as good as new. We would normally never leave something so valuable with perfect strangers in a different country, but we were so at ease with this family that we immediately trusted them. I also bought a necklace and a pendant there that I'm in love with. They have the normal Sri Lankan gemstone (white sapphires!) and other stones. They are ready and able to do custom work as well if you want to design your own piece.

The best Jewellery shop in Colombo since 1906 . Nothing to said any more, if you're in Colombo and you looking for something unique ??? Mr Salies is the answer. Totally recommended !!!

We visited the store based on Google reviews and were not disappointed! The staff were lovely and didn't put any pressure on us to buy anything. Even though we had a smaller budget they treated us with courtesy. They also gave us a great price!

Of all the jewellery shops I visited in Colombo, Salie's was the best by miles. Salie's has the best quality gems and workmanship. They are also really reasonably priced and I found them to be really honest, genuine people. Marzy and Isam are so welcoming and really took the time to answer all my questions and helped me with the design of my jewellry. They both seem to have infinite patience and are so lovely to deal with! It took me 3 visits to decide on what I wanted but they were never pushy, they wanted me to be happy with what I selected and said that I could take all the time I needed. When my order came back, I was so impressed with the quality and workmanship. I really can't recommend them highly enough and will definitely be a returning customer. If you only visit one jewellery shop in Colombo, do yourself a favour and go to Salies!

My partner and I had an afternoon to spare in Colombo before going home to Sydney. We had heard that Sri Lanka was good for gem shopping after doing some research (following our visit to Kandy), so I suggested looking at jewellery in Colombo given the fact that her birthday was coming up soon.
After doing some further research I came across a number of positive reviews for Salies on Trip Advisor, and the experience we had was certainly lived up to expectations!
Whilst I only had a small budget (~US $400), Mr Salie and his staff were very friendly and personable, and at no time did my partner nor I feel any sales pressure. He let us look at and try on anything on the store, and when my partner found a ring she liked, Mr Salie was both fair on price, and happy for one of his staff to accompany us to the Colombo Gem Authority to ensure its authenticity (note: this was important to us given a number of warnings we had read about fake gem sales).
The store is easy to find, and if you are looking for a reputable gem dealer in Colombo I would have no hesitation in recommending Salie's.
Note to other travellers: make sure you allow at least 2 hours at the Colombo Gem Authority as they work on "Sri Lankan bureaucrat" time.response / report this review -

Lovely staff. Mrs. Salies and Rizman helped me pick out sapphires and spinel. It was a comfortable experience to shop without pressure and have knowledgeable advice. I took my sapphires to be tested and they were genuine. It's difficult to know where to go as there are so many shops and some are not so honest so after reading reviews, I selected this one. I was not disappointed. I would highly recommend anyone coming to Colombo to stop here and have a look. I was mainly interested in loose stones but I was able to find a lovely ring too. I probably bought more than I planned too! They made earrings from my sapphires. Prices are reasonable for the high quality. Workmanship for the earrings are approximately $45 USD/ 1gm of gold. You can easily spend a couple of hours here looking and asking questions. Majority are Sri Lanka sapphires but they do have different gems from around the world.

Ask me to name *honest* gem sellers in Colombo? I can only personally vouch for one - Salie's. Bonus: they do beautiful workmanship; they don't give you any price point attitude or sales pressure; and you will experience real savings buying your Sri Lankan sapphires in Sri Lanka.

As an Australian living in Colombo for the past two years, I've been to a few gem shops but this is my jeweller of choice. Mr Isam Salie is now the fourth generation running this shop. The Salie family really know their gems, but most of all they are unfailingly patient whether you are spending $200 or $2000 (or more). I have also found their workmanship to be excellent - Mr Salie recently remade a ring for me and the quality of the workmanship makes it sit a lot better, but also look like a more expensive piece.
