We approached Richard Cabanas for a 1 nights camping trip in the nearby Yala National Park. His knowledge of the park is exceptional and arranged for us a rustic camping trip further into the park than any other place we could find. We also stayed at his Cabanas which is delightfully serene with a pool surrounded by mango and banana trees, so nice to relax to after the safari. Hands down a big recommendation from me.

Stayed here first few days when first opened best vegi meal i have had in my life fantastic place.bird life and butterfly s are fantastic around this area .

Place is excellent & relaxing. But the owner is not guest friendly or service oriented at all. He is only money minded. We got to know this hotel from the FB. He was promoting rooms & villas for Rs 3000/= full board per person. Before transferring the Rs 15,000/= advance confirming for 5 adults starting from 21st October dinner for 24th October lunch got further details to satisfy our selves. He was telling a lot about the place & was saying that he is giving a good Sri lankan breakfast, Rice & curry lunch & a BBQ dinner through out our stay. So then we were finally satisfied as it was reasonable with present country situation & did the transfer. As soon as reaching the hotel on the scheduled day around 5.30pm the bad experienced started we requested the evening tea as soon as we reached the hotel & he rejected so we wanted to prepaid our own tea but unfortunately at least the basic requirement of drinking water at the room was not there or did not provide us so we used the water we took &.prepared our own tea at the room with the tea, coffee & sugar we took, then we were looking for the cup & saucers, it was not there & we had to go to the kitchen & request it. From that evening tea till we left the hotel on full board basis the bed tea & the evening tea we were supposed to get we never got it. Then the second shock was the BBQ dinner on the same night which he said that we are going to get through out our stay it was just 1 piece of BBQ chicken with some rice & some stuff & after that we never got a BBQ dinner at least the BBQ chicken piece till we leave. On the 22nd for lunch we got rice & curry but after that no rice & curry as promised or expected. Sri Lankan breakfast was very shoddy & it was like telling us this is what we are giving for Sri Lankan breakfast whether you like it or not have it or get out. He never had a courtesy of asking us or telling us what we would prefer or what he is going to give us to except it or to do some request which any hotel will do or at least did not give us a menu card. Even at a smaller hotel after the lunch or dinner a dessert is offered at least a banana or a piece of fruit. We never ever got a desert after even fruits were freely available. The day before leaving the hotel after lunch we asked the care taker whether there is a boutique near by to purchase some ice cream then the care taker brought some ice cream from the refrigerator & offered us we had it & was surprised why the desert was not offered to us the earlier days after lunch or dinner. On the day we were leaving in the final bill Rs 800/= was charged for the ice cream. When I questioned it he was saying the lunch on the day of leaving was free of charge, then I questioned how come when it is on full board the lunch is going to be FOC as per our package. Then he kept his mouth shut. From the day we reached the hotel till leaving the only satisfied service was offered to us was by Mahinda uncle the care taker of the hotel, He was a superb getleman who knew very well to treat & take care of the guests whether foreign or local & it was up to the utmost satisfaction. In the reviews I see good ones only from foreigners but not from the locals. Why two different ways for locals & foreigners. I request the responsible authorities not only at Richard's cabanas but at other hotels also & look in in to the ill treatment & cheating done for the locals taking place. Locals also pay their hard own money. If they cant cater the best way for the utmost satisfaction for the price they promote they should not do it through promotions specially on locals.

Place is nice but the owner (Amila) unpleasant he needs only money hospitality nil, basic needs not up to the guests satisfaction. No bed tea or coffee & no evening tea either, no glasses & cups in the room to consume our own drinks, poor Breakfast ( string hoppers with dhal & sambol only) not served dessert after lunch & dinner. If anyone hope to visit that hotel please think twice. That is the worst hotel i have ever been to.

Great family run business. The cabanas are nice and clean they do also offer Safari trips to Yala National Park.

Großes und sehr sauberes Zimmer mit Tisch vor der Tür, so dass man den liebevoll gepflegten Garten genießen kann. Sehr nette und äußerst hilfsbereite Inhaber.
