We booked a Superior Mud Chalet Suite with BB and after we went there, they simply upgraded to a Mud Chalet and it was very spacious.
Next day, the Breakfast in the morning was an English breakfast with Eggs, Fruits and Bread toast and also with some Juice of our choice. While we were sight seeing around Tissamaharama, we got a call from Hotel that they will give a separate Mud Chalet Room because their Manager or some VIP person is coming with his family for holidays and they usually stay in the place that we were staying. So we went back to the hotel and packed our things and went to another Mud Chalet Room.
That room is also a nice one with a huge Bathroom area and it was very cool. Bathroom was an open area covered with some kind of Bamboo sticks or something and the roof was covered with the trees around the area. It was a superb experience inside a cool Mud Chalet. We enjoyed our stay much.
Next day,we requested to have early morning Breakfast packs as we were going for a safari ride at 5.30 am, and they prepared a nice breakfast meal inside a Eco-friendly box with a water bottle, small bottled fruit juice, Cheese sandwiches, banana and with 2 pineapple slices.
During our stay there, we had some visitors too. And they are none other than the stray dogs. If anybody is afraid of stray dogs, please be aware.
Overall the hotel is very nice and the staff is also very friendly.
There is no hot water at all this i dont like ! Room was dirty , the towes was dirty , the nightshifts too, pillows smells bad , , they dont have blankets , worms moving inside the room , in the night they allowed to dogs walking alone in the garden and make stress to tourist, houses are without glass on windows and sometimes is little scary ! For 1 night is ok to try , but very hard for more , there arent good conditions ! But for pictures and walking during the day is good !
We had a lovely stay here but it could and should have been so much better.
The main front of house manager was not particularly accomodating or interested in assisting us. We asked about prices for a safari but were never given the price so we ended up booking elsewhere.
In line with other recent reviews the mosquito nets provided have holes in and are definitely needed. WiFi is available in the reception or restaurant but not in the treehouse itself.
The tree house we stayed in was generally clean when we arrived but clearly that takes some work as by the time we left a lot of leaves and dirt had blown in. There was a lot of bird muck on the floor upstairs when we arrived and whilst we realise that this is essentially an open air stay perhaps this could have been cleared up better. A one point there was a dead moth in the treehouse that provided a feast for the ants - if this is the sort of thing that you don't want in your room, this isn't the place for you!
The food was good, we booked half board and didn't go hungry at either meal. Breakfast was reasonable, with fruit, juice, toast and a choice of eggs. Dinner was three courses with a reasonable choice. Water at meal times was complimentary.
calm n quiet place. They have a nice little pool. Tree houses are ok. Good place to relax.
If you don't want bugs/insects creeping into your room then this is not the hotel for you, but if you are a nature lover and loves to be on touch with nature this will be a fun experience. The restaurant prices is expensive by Sri Lankan standards. If you do plan to stay make sure you go for the tree houses, its a great experience. Mud Chalets are pretty useless. Also amenities are not clean, mozzie nets are damaged and ripped. There is a salt water pool.
A well spend night in the Tree house .( Dinner is good but a small quantity). Early morning breakfast at 5am off to Yala National park , Transport provided and back to sarai village for lunch . Lunch was really good . There are other events available too. Staff is Good . And Wifi is not available in Tree House ,only available close to the reception Area .
We had a great stay but SUPER OVERPRICED AND not well managed.
Nice tree houses and great pool area. Clean and food is good. IT HAS POTENTIAL but:
- needs some attention to detail as looks like no investments have been maid for some time
- food is SUPER OVERPRICED and then they even add an extra 30% ripoff charge!
- everything costs extra! Even bikes that are not worth a penny!
- happy hour is for 1 order so it’s a joke, not a happy hour!
We too tuk tuk to get food about 5 minutes away at the intersection.
Enjoyed staying in a tree house at a yoga camp here. Great yoga teacher (thank you so much, Anna. Namaste), fantastic people working there, great food and really interesting excursions (safari to Yala and bird watching to the lake). Thanks for an experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life :)
Good staff. Food limited variety. Novel experience. Good excursions. A bit expensive due to taxes and service charge.
I truly loved my 5 days here. Staying in a treehouse is just a marvellous experience. The houses are very spatious, good beds with mosquito nets, sitting area and a private bath. Stuff was attentive and very nice. Cook does an excellent job and even prepared some delicious sri lanka breakfast variations. Best of all was my time with highly experienced and easy going yoga teaching Anna. I had booked a package and everything went smooth and enjoyable. Thank again for this georgeous days!
One of the worst experiences during my time in Sri Lanka. During the time we were there, there was no water at all. Staff literally ran away from guests when they were asked about the situation. I would not recommend to anyone visiting the area.
We were considered local even though we no longer live in the country. I would like to think that this was not the reason for the terrible service.
we went on full board basis and all 3 meals only option we got was to select either fish or chicken and for lunch they served rice and curry, us being Sri Lankans we eat rice and curry every day and that was no exception.. utterly disappointing specially when on FB basis and didn't have a proper meal throughout the stay. Decent Looking place, didn't expect the Deluxe tree house to be without a door or a proper covering, different experience to the whole family we liked it, beautiful tank near by we really loved it there, however the food of very minor. and no wifi for our tree house and they didnt do anything to help, more like if you dont get it then sorry !!
Spent one night in the mud chalet and the other night in a tree house. It was my first tree house experience and it was awesome. Very nice concept. Staff and the food was great!!
Woow excellent & Supportive staff. I loved the hospitality over there. Calm and quite atmosphere as well as breathtaking surrounding. Hope to visit soon.
"Saraii village" is where you can have a very comfortable stay and a relaxing time. Loved the hotel and the staff. And tasted great food after a long time at the "Spice Lounge".
I booked the Tree House Suit and I stayed there for two nights. We had a nice sitting area with bean bags, chairs, stools made of tires and a hammock. There were no air conditioned rooms but the fans and the way they have built the tree house keep the temperature down throughout.
The bedroom is just wow and there was a private bathroom on the same floor. In the evening dinner is served with lots of candlelight and, under a starlit sky near the swimming pool. The Manager came and told us about the plan of the second night which is really nice of him. The staff s are very friendly and lovely people. We headed back to the tree house and. Quite location
On the next day morning we woke up at we were headed to the Lake for our lake tour and we were taken to the river in a tractor which was very cool, a ride through the village road.
The lake ride is just amazing, by the time we came to the shore we had our breakfast served to us by the lake. A lot of birds to see but because of the drought not much water in lake. a different experience to have breakfast while the ripples of water touching your feet while enjoying the serene lake.
They have a swimming pool and that’s a salt water swimming pool, According to the manager salt being used instead of chlorine which is artificial, sounded more interesting to me to see how they value the “Eco Concept”
I wanted to try Yoga, but due to the travel plan I had to stick to my schedule, but I spoke to Anna, who’s doing Yoga. She is really friendly and I supportive and interactive.
