This hotel is well over 100 years old and still retains much of the old world charm. The rooms are huge with wooden flooring. I had a good view of Kandy lake and the main street from my room. The reception area is very smart and the staff helpful and friendly. The hotel has long passages and you may have to climb many stairs to get to your room so it will be wise for the elderly and physically challenged to occupy rooms on the first floor. The breakfast is good and the bufett great. On some nights there is live entertainment which you can enjoy while having your dinner. Youll also find a KFC, Pizza Hut and a supermarket within walking distance from the hotel.
If you intend visiting the Temple of the tooth, please ensure that you are appropriately dressed. No short pants allowed. Females must cover legs and shoulders.
The hotel is centrally situated and there are many shops all around. A good holiday destination.response / report this review -

Wow.. the amazing part is, it is constructed in 1842 by British and the construction of interior and exterior remains the same now as well may be by few renovations.. it's OK stay there and a very famous Budha temple is walkable in Kandy is near by this hotel only pizza hut is also near by.. this hotel gives only breakfast as complimentary and they have Chinese restaurant as well inside the hotel

Very friendly staff. Food is really good. But I had a parking issue with security guard which annoyed me a lot. My feedback to the hotel management is to improve the quality of the security guards since their service is pathetic. But I appreciate your hotel staff service. Thank you.

One of the oldest hotels in Kandy situated right in front of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. It can be classified as a 3 star hotel with the British colonial architecture. Prices are quite reasonable but it's time for a major renovation I suppose!

Colonial style hotel with clean and nice looking rooms. Great facilities and the space by the pool is really isolated so no sound from the road. Staff is great and service fast, except for the desk. Most times I passed by there was only one poor guy running the show alone, often creating a queue.
WHY THE LOW RATING? Rooms towards the road are a nightmare. They are extremely poorly isolated and the heavily trafficked road right outside makes sleeping impossible. Traffic starts to heat up around 5:30, so don't plan on sleeping any longer than that. Oh, and the wifi reaches absolutely nowhere. Basically only the lobby, living on the first floor right above the lobby and the reception made the wifi unusable.
Then there's cleanliness as many others have mentioned. The beds, while fairly soft, had stained sheets. Not very nice. And there's some cobwebs hanging around lamps and so on. Room for improvement in other words.response / report this review -

Storied hotel definitely worth a stay.
Location can't be beaten. Center of Kandy, right next to a beautiful lake and just opposite the gates of Kandy's main attraction, the Buddha temple of the tooth relic.
The historic hotel has a nice colonial exterior, but the uniqueness is the interiors. A 100 year old and it feels like it, but in a quaint and nice way.
Has many different types of odd shaped rooms. Ours was a large L shaped room with wooden floors. Part of it was the sleeping area and the rest my son and I used to play cricket :-). Bathroom fixtures were functional but felt 50 years old with pull chains and such. Nice.
I took a walk around the hotel after midnight after everyone had retired. Wooden floors that creaked, dark panelled walls, eerie shadows - spooky, fantastic, the works.
They have a very modern swimming pool with a lovely sun dappled courtyard garden next to it.
The restaurant food and service wasn't fantastic, but hey there is a Pizza Hut next door if you're up to it.
There must be other newer hotels around more modern and better maintained. But stay here - it's the type of experience that is getting rarer in this world.

Quaint hotel right in the middle of Kandy town. Had a very nice stay here. The breakfast and dinner buffet are good. The travel desk at the front hall helped organize all our day trips.

Old and famous queens hotel, which used to be glamorous once and also one of the famous in the country. It still brings an identity to Kandy City but, the condition of the hotel is not that good compared to other new hotels in the area. Classical architecture still looks elegant. However, the popularity of the place among travelers have rapidly fallen over the last decade.

Location is superb, building is amazing. But unfortunately definitely due to lazy management this hotel just lacks what it needs to meet the standard. Mattresses where old and worn out. Room has not been cleaned properly in a long time, fungus between tiles and bathtub has stains that won't go away. Toilet doesn't flush properly. Amenities in room very old, noisy AC for instance. Food was very standard, they try to make it good by presenting it nicer, but you can't cover up the taste like this. Rooms at the road side are noisy, for a hotel in this price category and has been here for so long, you would expect better sound insulation. Staff is friendly and helpful though. All in all I think the income of this complex ends up in the pockets of the owners, rather than improvement of the hotel.

Colonial style hotel, a bit run down but all utilities work. WiFi reception in rooms is very poor.
They have a good dinner and breakfast layout.
We have stayed here 3 times, but today morning we were woken up at 4am by religious chanting on loud speakers. I do not understand why it did not happen or we didn't notice it in previous two occasions.
I value my sleep so decided next time will not stay here.response / report this review -

Nice place in the middle of Kandy and next to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth (which can be a bit noisy on the morning ; get a room on the inside, away from road and temple speakers) . Convenient but Two days in Kandy is enough. Lovely staff.

Let me start with the positive, the location is perfect opposite to the temple. Less enjoyable is the noise if you have a room at the front that starts around 5 pm. The lobby and restaurant look great with a very historical feel (in a good way) and the breakfast we had was very good. The big downside are the rooms. They also have a very historical feel but now in a negative way! Our rooms were very damp (one even moldy) the bathrooms were not very clean and lots of stuff was in need of repairs (broken tiles, broken aircon unit, broken lights). So it will only do for a short overnight stay if you want easy access to the temple. You will have to get your reward from the friendly staff and historical atmosphere. If they would renovate the rooms keeping the historic details but making sure the basics work it would easily go up 2 starts!

Being a 3 star It has all a tourist needs. Service, security, quietness and calmness is really make this place very cozy. Its just in front of sacred Dalada Maligawa in a walking distance. Food also really nice and the help from the Stuarts are pleasing.
On negative bathrooms are not much enough spacious and not sealed from the room. Also as the wooden floor long term used the space between the floor and door is very large thus rooms also not seal from passage. Anyway its a good place to stay.response / report this review -

Historic Building but needs updating. Friendly staff but asked at two different occasions if the Chinese restaurant on the first floor was open and told yes. Only to go up and find it closed both times. Could walk into the kitchen and see it was very clean though.
Cold beers at the pool bar were good and lunch buffet as well.

On of the oldest hotels with Colonial style..If you need the luxury comfort, this is not your place. But old big rooms & nice hot water bath & hot food make your day.

Old colonial hotel next to that ultra noisy temple. But we love that Dusty atmosphere and service of bygone Centuries. The pub is also worth a visit. Sadly only terribly boring Lion beer there. But it's not their fault. Monopolies should never be allowed

We didn't stay the night here but we did eat breakfast here after walking around the temple. The food was really good and the building is old and beautiful. We enjoyed our meal here and I would recommend it even if you aren't staying there!

The hotel still maintains its prestigious classic atmosphere. The rooms are huge and are well maintained. The staff is also very friendly and provided an excellent service during our stay.
Buffet does not have a large spread, but all the dishes were absolutely delicious. I'd like to suggest them to extend the spread of the salads a bit more so that it'll increase the quality of the buffet.
It was absolutely worth the cost and this definitely is a place which I'd choose to revisit.response / report this review
