It is sad to see the current status of Peradeniya National College of Education which used to be one of the best English Teacher Training college in Sri Lanka in the past. Once it has been converted into a National College, all its grandeur and quality of training has vanished. I was trained here from 1986 to 1988. Now we find that the management of this college is illiterate in that they cannot write a proper mission for the college. I leave this to the reader to decide whether the mission statement found on the first page of this college's website is right. This college trains government English teachers, but its mission is to train competent English and foreign language learners. I wonder if there is a competent dean at this college now. May God bless to the trainee teachers who enter this college to become competent English and foreign language learners!
