  The Mannar line was built as part of a plan to create a rail link between Sri Lanka and India. By 1914, the Mannar line was built to connect Talaimannar on Mannar Island to the Sri Lankan mainland. On the Indian side, the Indian railway network was extended to Dhanushkodi.

  After read a lot of history’s about buy “sleeping cabin” in Sri Lanka we went today to mannar rail station ready to buy 2nd or 3° class , but somehow we found available ticket for sleeping cabin , the price is 800 Rupies per person so it’s around 4€ ,the train leave at 22:00 and arrives 6:00 in Colombo fort , they guy how sold us the ticket speaks good English and works very well ( north of Sri Lanka is amazing.( editing ) the Train has no beds to sleep 🛏, so you are paying 800 just for reserved sits , not worth .

  Foolish srilankan railway station very far from Mannar town, this railway track continued from old path, lack of services to station from town
