Manelwatta Temple is a unique Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka. It doesn't look like a regular temple in Sri Lanka, instead it looks like a one in China, Japan or Korea. It is mainly due to the major patronages of China, Japan and Korea, for Manelwatta Temple. And also it makes the temple a beautiful place.

The first thing you will notice about this temple is, its Omnipresent Lord Buddha Statue. It is large and placed on a really high stage. It is a beautiful sight to the eyes.

Calm and charming place to visit which is still under construction. Open until 10.00pm. Its having number of locations for photo shoots and so this is one of the famous temple among photographers.you will find its too crowdy on auspicious days. Good for walking as well.

Eye catching mahayana architectural buddhist monastery located in biyagama - colombo road. This place will calm your thoughts and relax your mind. buddhha palace is just like the building we saw in spellbinder.. reaching from colombo is easy take 224 bus (pugoda,waliweriya). This temple ground runs in acres. Great view for photographers. Statues located near lakeside are wonderful..

Really Beautiful N Peaceful place. Also good for wedding photography.
(2017-08) Now they take 5000/= rs for wedding photography. There are plenty of couples there. So better to go there early in the morning.

Nice environment. Japanese style temple plus higher education center. Meditation classes and Ayurveda treatment center available on certain days. I feel this place having little conflict with the Theravada Buddhist culture

This temple is located in Bollagela, Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. Manelwatta Vihara contains 16 hectares of land. It is now mainly used for educational purposes. A free training program for Buddhist nuns (Bhikkhuni Academy) and lectures of Pali & Buddhist Studies by University of Kelaniya take place on the temple ground.
