Madu River safari in a wetland, near the town "Balapitiya" along the Colombo Galle highway. This is the place of the beautiful Madu river located. The river flows through where it consist a large number of islands, and the eco system creates a beautiful wetland.

This is a nice activity in Bentota. You can take a 1.5 hour river boat trip in the Madu River. They take you along the river banks, islands, mangrove forests and cinnamon forests as well. It also includes a short trip to a Buddha temple in the middle, a fish spa center, and also a mini session on how to extract Cinnamon from cinnamon trees. It's very safe and they give you adequate life jackets for the trip. Don't miss this activity either early in the morning or late evening so that you avoid the heat. Per boat trip costs 3000 Sri Lankan rupees and not per person basis.

Facinating tour along "Maduganga" for a reasonable price. There were several small islands and we could visit "Kothduwa Raja maha viharaya".

I marveled at the six to a boat fun ride around the islands and under the mangrove to see the wildlife from the speed boat equipped with life jackets and a collapsible roof to shield us away from the mid-morning sun. In between the one hour a bit more ride, they took us to Cinnamon Island to see how cinnamon is harvested and processed into sticks, powder and oil. I had to buy, I bought a packet of cinnamon, whereas the tour buddy settled for the oil.

Overpriced at 3000 LKR which we paid per head!! A motorboat ride which takes u around the madu river Some small islands, mangroves, fish spa, temples and stuff. If ur lucky u get to see some birds. Else its just a boat ride that u can enjoy. Cinnamon island was good tough, an old man demonstrating how cinnamon is made.

    Unforgettable place to visit!

We visited this in the evening around 3 PM. on our way to Ahangama and it got pleasant. There are various operators here and you need to be careful to understand exactly what you are going to get for your money. Very large river to gives a great experience.
