  It holds a large number of endemic species of plants and animals, and a variety of plants of known benefit to man. Forest Reserve is the last viable remnant of Sri Lanka’s tropical lowland rain forest; over 60% of the trees are endemic and many of these are rare; and there are 21 endemic bird species, and a number of rare insects, reptiles and amphibians (IUCN Technical Evaluation).

  Nice but rip off - just like many things on the Galle road, there are literally tens of turtle farms/hatcheries along the road. If you take a tuk tuk, the guy will take you where he gets commission. Our guy took us to one that charged 1000 LKR/person. The guy took around around a compound that had many water tanks and turtles in them. Good information but he kept telling us how much it costs to feed turtles, hinting that we should donate. The tour lasted about 30 minutes. You can also hold a turtle. Slightly underwhelming. Negotiate with your tuk tuk guy before you go. Know what you're getting into.

  Decent experience if you want to know about turtles or have kids - the tour takes about 30 mins and covers 6-7 varieties of turtles.

  A bit overpriced, but amazing experience. We got to release 5 baby turtles as the sun was setting. Just magical.
