This station is located about 1 km away from city centre. However it is located near Kurunegala-Kandy road. There are plenty of buses available to go to city centre from here, even until 10.00 pm. Station is located in northern railway line. Trains takes about 2 to 3 hours to go to Colombo from here.

This is one of the main railway station of the northern line.All the express trains which are heading to KKS, Trinco ,Baticalo Mannar are stop there. There is 2.3 km walking distance from Kurunegala Central Bus Stand to here. situated near to the A-10 highway (Katugastota- Puttalam Highway ) and there is about 350 m from this highway to the station

Substantially influential railway station in Jaffna- Colombo and Batticaloa- Colombo railway lines. Built in the colonial era, this establishment still has old styled buildings which are sufficiently functioning.

Due to the distance to the town center passengers may find it bit inconvenient, but considering the staggering time takes to a ride from Colombo to Kurunegala.

Although there is a big space of parking, do not try to park inside there premises at least 5 minutes. Someone inside would always bother you. Quick drop offs and pick ups allowed. They need to be good enough than this bad experience.

It has been renovated directing its main entrance towards Kandy Kurunegala high way. It is a wise and timely decision taken by the railway administration. In 1970s and 1980s passengers used to trespass the railway quarters in the darkness to reach Kandy Kurunegala high way. Adding further more, currently it has 3 plat forms making it very convenient to exchange two trains without delay.

Kurunegala railway station offers reservations for 1st class and 2nd class.Canteen and male / female rest rooms are available. Seating and storage facilities are available.Parking available for both staff and travelers.

Newly renovated station. Typical Sri Lankan service from staff and Almost all trains run late. Good and clean waiting areas. Ample parking space (chargers Per Day basis).

Now Kurunegala railway station modified so much, but still there is a common problem. When we enter to station we can find ticket counters, but to get the train all passengers need to cross the air bridge.. This is too uncomfortable and having a lot chancess to miss the train.. Because young people will be brave.. But old people confuses with this method, because there is a railway track nect to ticket counter, but that one used only for short distance trains and rail busses.. But most of the people thinks that railway track also used for long trip trains..
Better considering public passengers comfortable..
Also, issuing tickets is too slow in Kurunegala.. There are more than 4 ticket counters in Kurunegala station, but most of the times I saw there will be only one or two ticket issuers there, and they only moving from 1 counter to other one.. This is making queues too long.. And waiting time is too high..

Friendly staff.. they even have a complain log book which u can get from the office upon request to state your grievances. . First time i ever saw that at a station ..major improvement. .. canteen food is great. .small place but clean .
All in all quite a different kinda station..wish them well on improvement.

Old train station. Almost every train stops here. Newly renovated. All trains runs late. Including intercity express trains. That's a big failure. Staff not friendly. To reach Colombo quicker this is the best option.

The main railway station of the Kurunegala city. Situated at Gettuwana near the Kandy Kurunegala main road. A quiet good place with enough seating facilities. Vehicle parking is considerably big and will be charge for parking. Recently a third platform and several facilities were added. Courtyard has enough space to turn a bus. Not the best sanitary facilities in the town but the wash rooms are considerably good.

Quite modern railway station (After renovations and add-ons) with ample space for waiting and parking. They charge for long term parking (Per Day) and you can easily leave the vehicles and travel by train as you wish. Check the website, mobile applications or contact 1919 (Government Information Services) for train schedules.

Refurbished and some newly built structures. However, service is not that great. The ticketing officers will not issue tickets in advance. They will make you wait until few minutes before the train arrives. Another bad thing is, they'd issue 2nd class tickets even if there aren't any seats available. Limited seatings for passengers.
