Amazing experience with wild life. Best entrance to see the leopards

Best place to watch Sri Lankan typical wild life. Sort of a crowded place, but if you plan well you can easily find a day, where with less crowd. Normally week ends are crowded with locals and the best is the weekdays.
you can have 1/2 day and full day safari. I recommend a full day one as you have enough things to do inside. You can find animals early morning and late afternoon. When the dry seasons come, the park will be closed and no one can go in. Further, its difficult to find animals in the rainy period too. So, who ever willing to visit, better you check this.response / report this review -

Have visited few times and must go place for the nature lovers. Located in dry zone and can see different types of animals. If you are really lucky you will be a able to see leopard

National Park situated in the southern part of the country. Jeeps are available for Safaris. Better to reserve Jeeps early.

Yala has the highest density of leopards anywhere in the world. So you get a good chance of seeing a leopard out in the wild.

A must visit area of Sri Lanka. Bring along your binoculars and get ready for a bumpy ride. There is plenty going on, if you take the time to look. With a voluminous wet land area, you'll be sure to see Water Buffalo, wading birds and if you've counted your lucky stars, a leopard.

The park offers many beautiful animals, however if you see them or not is unclear. What they don’t offer is good, efficient service. Woke up at 4:30AM to go to the park. When we got there we had to wait about one and a half hour to be let in to the park. First you have to get your queue number, and of course you can’t get that any other way than actually driving there. During the busy hours (morning and evening), you have to wait for 1-2 hours and only then can you enter the park. The park is so filled with cars (which are not filled, commonly with 1-4 people) during these hours that if there is a rare animal somewhere, 10 cars are already in front of you and the chance that you actually get to see it is small.
All drivers are from different private companies not affiliated with the park and seldom have good communication either. However, this is not something negative about the park per se. But the drivers seem kind of uninterested in the animals themself and do not teach you anything about them, contrary to some safari tours I’ve been on in Africa.
Feels like it is hardly worth the wait and trouble, but if you perhaps do get to look a leopard in the eyes, maybe.response / report this review -

Visited the National Park for an afternoon 3 hour safari. We saw plenty of animals including a leopard chasing a deer, crocodiles, an elephant and three sloth bears digging around for termites. There was a plethora of bird life and the park itself was lush and scenic. The drivers used were professional and knowledgeable. A definite place to visit.

It was a really early start and it was a beautiful park that seemed semi organised with it's specific routes. I managed to capture a glimpse of a jaguar, it could of been longer but good there are so many vehicles on the road it felt like rush hour in Dehli or an episode of wacky races it's just unfortunate as it really does take away from the experience as people are racing to try and see the elusive car to the point were other drivers are arguing with each other

Hire a good driver and you'll be rewarded with exceptional views, PLUS birds, crocs, leopards, deer, buffalo, elephants, boar, mongoose, monitor lizardsfor sure. Bring water.
