Best equipped railway station after Rambukkana if you’re traveling from Colombo. You may be relieved when the train arrives to Kadugannawa station which was dragging it’s lot with very hardly that’s why the railways opt to old heavy power sets rather than new lighter ones for this tasks since those light ones doesn’t have the enough power to drag all the carts.

Equipped with Railway museum which has several long gone power horses Kadugannawa become a Iconic in the Sri Lankan Railway History.

Kadugannawa railway station is a famous railway station Situated in Mahanuwara district in Central province of Sri Lanka. It is 43rd railway station on the Main line between Balana railway station and Pilimathalawa railway station. The station located at 106.10 km away from Colombo Fort and at 515.24 meters (1690.4ft) above sea level. Station was established on 20 March 1867 (Polgahawela to Kadugannawa the 3rd Part of the Colombo to Badulla Main line) Almost all the trains that running on the line are stop at the station.

Feeling full place. Walking from the way to Colombo side of the railway track along few kilometres. You meet few tunnels made bn digging the rock and the train travels from them. It's dangerous but awsome to walk alone the way. Please keep your eyes and ears while you walking alone any railway track. The KADUGANNAWE station is so popular because of the railway museum is located on that place.

The railway station was established in 1867.
Sri Lanka Railway opened National Railway Museum at Kadugannawa on December 27, 2014 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first train run (The first train operated from Colombo terminus station to Ambepussa on December 27, 1864).
The museum is a great educational experience specially for kids.

The first modern highway Colombo - Kandy Road was built in 1820 under the direction of William Francis Dawson and he was died before the completion of the project. For the memory of William Francis Dawson the Dawson Tower was built in Kadugannawa

One of the prominent railway station on Mandy line. Now there is a railway museum. Nice place. Also this is a historical railway station. Kids should visit this.

I visited this area to meet a friend who is living in this town, area is beautiful with lovely scenery if one is able to climb up to any nearby hill to see the train and bus ride from Colombo to Kandy and the sun set. A railway museum is under process with history of railway in the region and likely to be completed by the end of 2015. City has few restaurant and banks, atmosphere is Kandy!
