  The temple consists of a Stupa, A Mahayana style Image House and a small Bodhi Tree. From the entrance a straight path leads to the Stupa. This path is protected by a small parapet wall. Half way down the this path you will see a sign indicating elephants crossing. The narrow area between the end of the parapet wall and the stupa is a regular path for elephants to cross t the he temple. And if you go there during dusk, you can be almost sure to come face to face with some wild elephants on this path.
  Built as a world peace initiative launched by Ven. Nichidatsu Fujii, a Japanese Buddhist monk and the founder of Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist Order. The Japanese Peace Pagoda in Ampara was constructed in 1988 and had withstood the violence which ravaged the Eastern Sri Lanka.

  A place very close to Ampara town where Japan Mahayana Buddhism meet Sri Lankan Therawadha Buddhism. Peaceful, not crowded place with parking availability
