Galmaduwa is a ‘ Gedige type vihara ‘ believes to be built in 17 Century. This magnificent place some argues that a unfinished gopuram type Hindu establishment. However this vihara was built by King Kirthi Sri Rajasingha who was a originally Hindu turned to Buddhism to full fill the requirements to claim for Kandy throne..

Galmaduwa is a architectural marvel built entirely on stone and brick

Galmaduwa purana viharaya is a buddy temple which is situated in Kandy district. The architecture is the reason for it's well known name. The base is Hindu kovil architecture.
It is sad to see the status of this unique building, because it has been used for Sunday school and I could see lots of wiring and renovations had been taken place. In addition to that the place had not been cleaned for several days, it seems. Of course, I have no objections for the Sunday school. But, according to my opinion, being the one and only place like this in Sri Lanka we should well preserve that for the next generation.

One of the most historical temple located in Kandy. Specially done with huge stone slabs. It is amazing and can not imagine how they made it in history.
It was a former Hindu Kovil and now it has converted into a temple.
