A small station on the Main Line, but a popular destination among travellers visiting nearby Galboda falls. Also there is a small natural water spring behind the station which is said to be containing the densest water in South Asia and this water had even been shipped to Britain during colonial era

“Galboda Fall” is not a strange place to someone who travels frequently. But if you haven’t visited this beautiful place you sure should give it a try. This beautiful place is located in Nuwara Eliya with 920m above sea level and it is surrounded by mountains with great biological diversity. These mountains make this wonderful waterfall fabulous.
If you’re starting your journey from Colombo you can take the ColomboBadulla train. It will take about four to five hours to get there. When you reach the last stage of this train journey around Kandy you will find some beautiful hills with pine forests.
After reaching your destination (Galboda Station) it will take about 3km to reach “Galboda Ella”, though you will have to walk this 3km, you won’t really get bothered cause the beauty of nature around. Believe me that beauty will never bring you a hard journey.
When we are getting closer to the waterfall we can see many streams carrying crystal clear water with them. Reaching the destination doubling the beauty, you might get a bit nippy. This place is situated near “Watawala”. The yearly rainfall for this waterfall is more than 4500mm. This waterfall is sustenance by Mahaweli river branch. The height of this waterfall is 30 meters. The width of this waterfall will be like 3 to 6 meters. Except January to February this waterfall will contain so much water in the other months. Also better minding your step because it might be a bit slippery because of the moss. To feel this beauty you should definitely go near the roots in the fall. There will be no words to describe the beauty and the atmosphere you’ll feel there. But also be notified that it is a bit dangerous going near the roots in the rainy seasons. Also it is good to be concerned not to swim near the root, because the reach is a bit deep. Unless that you can swim anywhere you like.
