Excellent view, great customer care and great food. Best family hotel in Kalpitiya.
Not "resort" at all, green swamp instead of lagoon, a lot of inconsistencies in description
Bad:
- Kiting: no equipment, no teaching and no rent in the hotel, just one person with few kites for many hotels in the same village.
- Windsurfing, diving and bicycles: the same as for kiting.
- Yoga: instructor can arrive from different village for $30 (!) per session, but it is no use because no place to practice.
- Massage: didn't even tried, suspect the same as yoga.
- There is some water in rooms, no hot or cold tap.
- Quite big, live and sound cockroaches in rooms despite of smell of intecicides.
- Rooms are much cleaner on photos then in reality.
- Lagoon looks like green swarm and not suitable for swim.
- "Eco" room means no glass windows (I didn't know that glass is against ecology) and shower almost outside, under sparse straw on the roof, no light or mosquitoes on your choice.
- "Superior" means something like 1-star room, no 3-star at all.
- Dirty surfaces and not vertical clothes rack, so no clean enough place to put clothes. No rubbish bin in rooms and on territory.
- Way to ocean not short and not clean, you can reach it depending on the tide. Walking along the narrow road without any sidewalk not compfortable, especially in the evenings when every local on bike try to affraid you beeping and crazy lauthing, looks like it is unsafe place.
I was very happy to leave this place the next day after arrival. Possible it is not bad place for a big group of people with their own transport for which cleanness does not matter. But it is not ok for individual traveler, who is not ready to clean a room himself, who wants to swim or to kite not so far away from hotel.
Good:
- Personnel can smile.
- Good breakfast.
- Bikes for rent.
Excellent place for kite surfing.
Calm and quiet place for relaxing. Resort with a beach front. clean and well maintained. delicious foods.
The venue is known as Dinuda Resort. It is on the lagoon and the setting is magical. It was going through some major building work during our stay which was noisy and made the place seem scruffy, however, I am sure when this is done the venue will be rather quaint. The room we stayed in was air-conditioned and basic, but the bed was comfy, the sheets were clean and the water ran most of the time. I had a mosquito net over my bed, but my son didn't have one over his single, which was a pity because we wouldn't have used the AC if he had had one. There are cheaper but nicer wooden cabins available now and I wish known before because I would have much preferred to be in one of those.
The wifi began well at the start of our week and then round to a rude halt. We were only then able to get online at 2am in the morning, which was a pain for work emails, but hey, it forced me off-line which is good.
The highlight of Dinuda are the staff. They are the FRIENDLIEST and most genuine people I have ever stayed with. Nothing was too difficult. And the food, loving produced by Yvonne was exceptional and great value. A Tuc Tuc is quickly on hand if you need it and town is only 10 minutes down the track. Go for the Sri Lankan breakfast every time!
As Kiters, we loved it here. We were on the lagoon with the wind cross on and could pump up on the beach at low water and walk out and launch. A couple of tacks later you are up with the rest of the crowd if you wish. There are water weeds in the shallows that can cut your skin and make relaunch a challenge, but as I said, get up wind and it's great.
My wish list for this place for the future. Get rid of the nasty electric overhead lights and invest in some lovely solar lanterns to light the tables at night. Get a bookshelf so travellers can share their books. Stop selling water in plastic bottles and get one filtered water tap that guests can refill their drinking bottles from.
Good place
calm and quiet place.
Natural view. Clean rooms. Friendly Manager. Very calm place
Good and calm place..
It's funny place
