The hostel is maintained neat and clean. The lady staff sitting in the reception has a problem with men. She's not at all friendly. She talks well with girls. If you are a male and traveling alone, better don't stay here.

Dambulla city hostel is one of my favorite properties from this company as i have stayed in all their properties in Colombo and Kandy . this place is very chilled out place a nice bungalow surrounded with trees and nice energy around a small pool as well as few games to play and a TV room too, the dorms are nice and cozy with very few number of beds its a good experience to stay here.

Another home run from the 'city hostel' chain with this place. The manager is very helpful and friendly. The facilities are reasonable and in good repair. Fans are a bit too weak to provide much comfort through the mosquito net so I didn't get the best sleep here but it was a similar story in mostly other places I stayed on my trip. What really pushed my experience up to 5 stars was the amazing dinners cooked at the hostel the two nights I stayed. Apparently they don't do them every night, only when busy, but it was a delicious set of 5 or so vegetarian, local foods which you sign up for early in the day and pay a minimal amount for.

Not quite in town but a walking distance. Quiet and comfortable. The hostel can arrange excursions to the surrounding areas.

I stayed at City Hostel in June. Sam is a helpful person willing to help. Sandra is also sweet and welcoming. Clean place for a regular price tag. There's a outdoor pool as well as space to play Volley Ball. A/C rooms are perfect, clean and tidy. Kitchen is wonderful, clean. We prepared our own meals there only brought few stuff from Super Market and every other Kitchen Equipment was there. Thanks for accommodating my stay @CityHostel Sam.

I had a very good stay at the Dambulla City Hostel. I got there during a rather busy weekend without a reservation and Antony, the manager, arranged for me to sleep on a mattress in the hallway as they did not have room for my first night.
The hostel is clean and it's location alright, at walking distance from both the Dambulla Cave Temple and the bus station.
The breakfast was nice, on top of the usual toasts and jam you get a couple eggs you can cook yourself in the kitchen.
In the evening, Antony often cooks a delicious local dinner you can enjoy with the other guests at a reasonable price.
The beds are comfortable enough and equipped with private fans and mosquito nets.
There is a comfortable common area that allows to easily meet tye other guests.
Overall, a hostel worth staying at.

We were enthused from the moment we entered the premises. They have something for everyone: a small pool, table tennis, volley ball cricket, dvd player and a big tv if you want to wind down after an excursion. They also have a fully equipped kitchen where everyone makes their breakfast in the morning. They provide all the ingredients and the guests prepare the breakfasts themselves. We thought it was a good idea. The managers/care takers were very obliging with huge smiles on their faces, making you feel at home. It's a good relatively inexpensive base for making day trips to Sigirya, Polonnawura etc. Check out the Kandalama Lake if you end up in Dambulla, it's a good place for a picnic with friends as it's not very frequented.
