Arguably one of the most worshiped and respected religious monuments in Colombo. Ananda Viharaya is basically the shrine of Ananda College, leading Buddhist school in Sri Lanka. But it alone stand as the heart of the school, worshiped by each time an Anandian ( and many others) pass by.
It's Unique architecture makes Ananda Viharaya, a significant landmark in the Maradana city.

Ask anyone even with no connection to Ananda and the image he or she would conjure would invariably include the hallowed shrine, part of which can be seen from the road. It is by no small means that the Ananda Vihara has become the third most venerated Buddhist shrine in the country according to the Asia Times magazine. Its 'Koth Kerella' or the Vihara Pinnacle which can be spotted from all directions throughout surrounding environs signifies the dissipation of knowledge and wisdom. Today, the shrine room has become indispensably and irrevocably intertwined with the identity of Ananda College.
