The only thing good about this place is the size of the room. There was paint hanging off of walls, the bed sheets were stained and the bathroom was filthy. We were recommended the place by a lady on our bus from Vientiane.
We checked out the room with a shared bathroom first which was horrible and the shared toilet was disgusting, only one out of two toilets actually had a seat.
Then we checked a room with a private bathroom which was 100,000 kip, expensive compared to the rest of Loas. The room was horrible and the bathroom had no drain cover, there was a huge hole under the sink where the pipes were which was filled with cobwebs. The room didn't even have A/C only a fan. In the end it was the cheapest place around so we decided to stay.
I had been asleep for two hours when I woke up itching from my toes to my hips. My husband turned on the light and I discovered 3 huge bed bugs munching on my legs. I knew the place was shabby but I had read any reviews so hadn't seen previous reviews about the bedbugs. Well I can confirm the hotel does have bedbugs, we stayed on room 10.
We told the Staff about the bugs and they just giggled about it and offered another filthy room. We decided to leave that night so they refunded us our money but no extra to wash our things. For all I know there might be bed bugs in my backpack and I'll take them wherever I go now.
You can rent a bike here for the loop and store your bag for 5000 kip, but if there are bed bugs about I wouldn't leave your bag as they live in furniture and small cracks where they can hide. This hotel is very irresponsible and you would do better to pay a little bit more and get a good room.response / report this review -

Welcoming and friendly staff, clean rooms, no bedbugs!, good food. You can rent bikes for the loop - as i did. Totally no problems and i would rate 6* if i could!

Big bed bug problem in the dorm. One of the people I was with in the dorm got covered in bites, and when we took his sheets off we saw a few hanging around. Someone else checked their bed and found some too, then I checked mine and found some too. All the other beds we checked either had bugs or evidence of them, and all the people at reception did was give us our money back and said to go stay somewhere else.
Speaking objectively, the food menu is pretty good and it does have a nice social area but the beds themselves are gross and they don't seem to do anything about it.response / report this review -

I only ate here. The food was decent, but the service was pretty slow. There is a nice fire for chilly nights. My friend stayed here and said he did not get bed bugs which is a miracle in this town) but the scooters rented here have lots of problems and he ended up having a break down on the loop, forced to walk two hours to the nearest mechanic.

The villa side of this hostel is really nice and worth the money (the photos show this) but there is a basic side to their buildings and the basic rooms are very basic and not particularly appealing. Hot water for the shower though and the beds are fairly comfortable. There are a lot of mosquitoes around though. So if you can book in advance then book a villa, not a basic room. Staff are also great!

Pictures speak better then words! Bed Bugs, gross rooms with weird smells. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! Please note most of the pictures are from the Villa next door

BED BUGS in 2 rooms, no.8 and 6 at least!! Old rooms not maintained at all, a LOT of hair on the sheets, blanket AND towels! Gross toilet seat.
By far the worst place I have stayed in Laos (4weeks).. i wish i had read the reviews before staying. And reception couldn't care less about the issue. Shocking.response / report this review -

This Lodge is really good. If you want to meet People that did the loop you should come here.
The Travel Lodge is also the Villa Thakhek so they offer nice rooms with A/C as well as cheap dorms and rooms with a fan.
They also have a good restaurant with many meals for a reasonable price.
We also rent a scooter for 110k (10k for a helmet) for 3 days to do the loop. The scooter was ok, a bit old and they usually offer only a few. But they have a lot of semi-automatic motorbikes for around 70k.
All in all a good place for Thakhek. The Travellodge is around 2 km from the Center but there is actually nothing important you would miss if you don't go there..response / report this review -

Got a private room with shard bathroom. Seemed fine for 1 night before the loop. No bedbugs as other reviews said. Not the most comfortable bed.. but for the price seemed ok. Paid about 10k kip more than the walk in price by booking online.

Overpriced Hostel at 50k a night without breakfast. Far from the city. Bikes are too expensive as well. Do not stay here. Go to Wang Wang shop and Hostel in town.response / report this review -

Dirty old rooms, number 7 and 9. We think this place is overrated and people come here thanks to the review they got from Lonely Planet.
We found 4 cockroachs in room 7, the room itself was very dirty and in serious need of love (paint, ceiling, fan, toilet, etc.).
I would recommend people to look for a different place this place is not worth it.response / report this review -

Do not stay here! Our room was riddled with bedbugs so we left in the middle of the night to sleep at another hotel, and when returning the key the next morning the receptionist didn't seem to care. We suggested changing the mattresses not just the sheets and he just shrugged and wouldn't give a refund. Even without the infestation, it's overpriced, you can find cheaper with a lot better rooms/ location! An expensive stay as we now have to clean all our stuff.

A bit expensive for rooms, & they fill up quick. So far the only option for dorm rooms in the town. Staff is friendly, really good & reasonably priced food. A lot of information for the surrounding area.

The dorms are ok but there is no AC. Correct prices. They have really good motorbikes for renting (80000-100000kip a day): it's more than in the city but it's very reliable (Honda). Staff is nice.

Big rooms and a nice garden to sit. Food is also okay. Also you can rent a motorbike here and they help you very good with questions about the loop.
