Excellent Lao food. The only place we tried in Luang Prabang that had good steamed Mekong fish. We tried a variety of other dishes that were also very tasty. Nice, pleasant environment and helpful staff. Definitely a top pick for Luang Prabang and we would come again.

Did a food class here. Was very nice and interesting if you know nothing about Laos cuisine. Totally worth it! Food we made was delicious. We did the pm class and glad we did. Sit was very funny. Take the time to do it! Just downside was the wait at Tamarind. Class suppose to start at 430, but we left the restaurant at that time. No need to arrive early

If you want to try amazing local food, this is the place to go. I tried the lemongrass chicken and it was amazing. I'm a fussy eater but still loved it. The local sausage is amazing too.

The highlight of our around the world trip. Being picky foodies we highly recommend this restaurant. The dishes are well thought out and beautifully presented. The tastes are sophisticated balanced, the great attention has gone onto even each uniquely invented drink. We stayed in town 3 nights and went to this place 3 nights. Not a single dish lets us down. Will surely go back again if we are around the neighbourhood.

I really enjoyed this place! They have an extensive menu- really everything you could think of! I had the bamboo soup and some noodle dish. Both were very fresh and of course vegetarian. We capped off the night with some laolao which though delicious at the time made for a slow morning! Would definitely go back and it’s good for groups. We had 8 people and they could split the check, no problem.

One of the best Laos restaurants in old town. They served real Laos food and creative drinks. Staffs are nice and price is comfortable. They have nice view, too.

As one of the most famous restaurants in Luangrabang I simply cannot be disappointed. As I have expected the portions were huge and delicious. I have tried a bamboo soup and local stew. That was enough for the next week 😀. There is also a good choice of local products and cooking books. The only disadvantage is that there is no wifi.

We were a bit disappointed because of all the hype around this place. We had the set dinner and the waiters could not remember what we got or not. They kept asking us but we had no idea. Isn't that the deadline behind a set menu? One of the dish was too spicy even though they never asked if it was okay. Nothing was really great. I will still recommend it for the atmosphere. We made reservations and got a very good table by the river.

Nice place with view over the Nam Khan River. Great place to try out traditional Laos food, each meal is explained by the waiter and how it should be eaten! Also have set meals to try out a combination of various local dishes. Prices a little bit higher, but well worth it. Very busy at night, for dinner reserve ahead! Also has kitchen break 4.30 - 5.30pm (but drinks still served).

Brilliant. Had one of the set Laos menus, which was full of local flavours. Staff incredibly patient and helpful, and made the experience really good. Make reservation or go early to have the best chance of getting a table.

Guide books and PR has given it a high reputation and, on the night we were there, it did not live up to its reputation. Presentation was good and staff attentiveness was good. Perhaps the menu is designed for those unfamiliar with South East Asian cooking so dishes like “Make Your Own Miang” were bland and uninteresting.

This was the first meal we had in LP and in Laos and it was great food.

The service was a bit slow but my general impression is that is how it is in LP.

The Five Bites were a great introduction and the staff walked us through the items. We had stuffed lemongrass which was delicious. Also outstanding were the drinks: the Virgin Mango Mojito and the Ginger and Lemongrass Cooler.

Will definitely go back, if not for the food, definitely the drinks.

The food was overwhelming with it's "local" seasoning. For the price we paid it wasn't to our taste. Service was superb but the taste wasn't quite a good way of tasting local cooking. Preferred street vendors for more hearty local cuisine then a fancy upscale version. Tamarind is delicious but with overwhelming use of lemongrass and ginger made it very unbearable to eat. Not one for leftovers but left nearly the entire dish. Flavors were too intense for those looking to delight in local cuisines.

We were glad we went to Tamarind for our first meal in Luang Prabang for it gave us a good overview and background of what Laotian food is all about. Order the introduction set and you'll get a taster of everything. We particularly loved the rice whisky and purple sticky rice. Service was good.

Do remember to book early as we saw many getting turned away due to the restaurant being full.

Fabulous food. Very authentic Laos food with foreigner-friendly menu that explains the many options well. Offers a range of tasting plates, some suit one person, some very complex and require 24 hrs notice to prepare. Suprisingly inexpensive, but the quality I would hope for from the best resort in town (the $1000+ a night Amantaka Resort). I was recommended to come here as they speak the best English in town, but was delighted with the food and service. Quiet riverside location.
They also run a cooking school.

Amazing Lao Cusine
Came here for the reviews and was not disappointed.
The restaurant is very well located on a quieter part of town by the river.
There are beautiful photographs of Lao people and their culture on the walls.
We were very well received and sat inside (make reservations for tables on the balcony!). Waiters are polite and pretty helpful explaining the menu and giving suggestions.
We had a sausage platter for starter and ordered the barbecued pork and the buffalo each. Both delicious, but I liked the buffalo best!
For dessert, we had their version of sticky rice which comes with a tamarind sauce and is topped with banana and coconut flakes. Delicious.
The prices are not much different from the other good restaurants in Luang Prabang but the food is surely the best you'll have in town.

So good we are here twice. The menu is simple Laotian food done well. We had a vegetarian meal consisting of snake beans, a tomato salsa, river weed chips, rice and some other veggies of which I'm not sure. All with their own unique flavours. The bale drink was very refreshing and tasty. I had never tasted bale before this.

Pleasant place, nice atmosphere, very small servings, high prices. A classic, relatively harmless tourist trap. For example: 8% surcharge on credit cards (hidden in 3% surcharge + 5% exchange rate).

Amazing food for great prices. Wonderful atmosphere by the water. Only downfalls is the menu is huge, 415 options and they are not the fastest. Loads of local Lao food and some fusion type dishes. Definitely a great place to eat.

One of the best Laotian restaurants in town. Its a great place to go (with a small group) to get a good introduction of local Laotian flavours. Herbs run the show here with nearly every plate we got. The best way to order is to get the tasting platter and then pick one of the set menus based on how adventurous you're feeling.
A few quick tips
- Laotians love their bitter notes (so bile comes into play once in a while)
- Lemon grass, kafir lime leavesbamboo..these are signature flavors
- The buffalo laap is an excellent dish, as is the chicken in lemongrass.

Service is a bit slow but well meaning, there's a good selection of wine on offer.
The dining room can get pretty hot.

Great food and great location. Sat outside on the river bank. Food is amazing, especially the sausage. Service is excellent. We booked in advance so we got the best table on the edge of the river. Everything we ate was first time experience. Food is excellent. Also, got some free shots from our super helpful and friendly waiting staff.

Got recommended this place from our hotel rep. I was surprised to find out that the tables were all reserved when we arrived at around 7pm. (Good idea to make a reservation!) We came back after an hour because we really wanted to try traditional Lao cuisine. The menu was very informative as well as the server who kindly explained the different dishes we ordered. We had the appetizer plate and the fish wrapped in banana leaves with some smoothies! Overall, happily satisfied. This is actually my first review ever. The experience I got was delightful enough to write this. Cheers!
