I love this small town. I am so into it. I came here with no expextation and turn out i am falling in love with what Luang Prabang have. Lovely people. Nice food. Hotel with good customer service. I am staying at Legend Hotel btw. The slow-pace life at Luang prabang is something good to ponder. Night life end at 11.30pm. Night market with wide range of local products. Watch sunrise at Mount Pohsi and sunset from a river cruise, mesmerizing. I like to see people walking around town selling fruits and local delicacies by bringing 'kandar'. I definitely will come back here again. I want to explore more of this place.

Wow, expensive by SEA standards!
1) Coffee in coffe shop $2.50
2) Large Beer in bar \ hostel $1.50
3) cheap meal at market (no drink) $1.50 \ $ 3
4) fruit shake $1.50
5) Motorbike (scooter rental) per day $16
This is a poor country so the prices are very inflated! To the suite tge western budget i suppose!
The whole point of travelling to asia is because it USED TO BE MUCH CHEAPER THEN THE WEST!response / report this review -

One of my favourite city is Luang Prabang as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its outstanding cultural, history, architectural values and its harmonious relationship between the natural and built environment,in the 14th century .the King Fa Ngum found the first Lao Kingdom ,Lane Xang , here in Luang Prabang and remained the capital of Lane Xang Kingdom until 1565 when the capital was moved to Vientiane .. lt still remaining to serve as the country's spiritual and religious center and Visitors to Luang Prabang are charmed by the friendly atmosphere of this small town and its people as well .

It has retained its small-town charm, is relatively clean by Southeast Asian standards, and has interesting natural and man-made sights that only came to the world's attention in recent years. I did, however, find some things that turned me off.
I did not expect the place to be expensive, probably more expensive than bigger cities such as Bangkok and Hanoi. And there seems to be a concerted effort to keep it that way. Even locally produced items are expensive. Most goods for sale have no price tags so I was left wondering if locals are charged differently than foreigners. While locals are not particularly pushy, they often inflate their prices to see if they can get away with it. I constantly felt being ripped off.
The overwhelming number of tourists was quite a surprise but it did not bother me as much. What mortified me was seeing so many of them behaving badly - loud, condescending, and disrespectful of local customs (especially around the monks).response / report this review -

One of my favourite citys in Southeastasia. Luang Prabang is almost too beautiful to be true. Whether You are here for a beautiful sunset at the banks of river mekong or at phousi hill or You want too visit some temple sites with lots of atmosphere. You will have a great time anyway. A good place to be and a good starting point to dive deeper into Lao culture.

This city is overrun by tourists and seems that all inhabitants now are chasing the $$$ from them. It's no more quiet and calm as it was 13 years ago where you could stroll along the lanes without hearing people asking you to buy their souveniers or take an overprized tuck-tuck to the waterfalls. Now even small temples ask foreigners to pay entrance fee which I think it's rediculous for a temple. The city has lost it's charme and should no more wear the name as "World Heritage Town" as most of the heritage has been lost to comerce. In the evening a lot of drunk backpackers "crajooling" along the streets and nobody shows respect to the Laotian culture.

Fantastic city with a lot of things to do. I wish the place stays as it is.
It is absolutely worth to stay 3-4 days and visit the museums, ceremonies, small nightlife or just hanging around / walking through the streets.response / report this review -

Clean city with lots of little hidden pathways to explore. People are friendly, food is great; especially Amigos Mexican Restaurant. Night markets stalls can repeat themselves with similar/same stock, but you can use that to barter.

Worth of visiting for 2-3 days. Waterfalls are the best attraction. Luang Prabang is kind of "expensive" place. Nice thing is that you can use also thai baths.
