It appeared to me that this terminal is unofficial.
There is no proper safety precautions.
No ticketing office. No public facilities like toilets or seats. No shelter from rain.
There are a few men seeking passengers at the bank of the river or the roads nearby.
    Some represents tour groups.
I suggest you to buy boat tour packages at the hotel rather than taking a risk here.

On the passenger ferry some douche tried to short-change us and rip us off. Be careful with your money folks: apparently they are not trustworthy people.

If you want to spend some time on Mekong then take a boatman near the river. 1,5 hours costs 100000 kip. Buy a bottle of beer and enjoy the sunset over Mekong.

The public ferry actually starts from "Vehicle Ferry Landing South Shore". Boat men at the riverside will lie to you and offensivly try to talk you into driving them across the river for 10.000 kip, where the public ferry is only 5.000. You need no ticket, just hop onto the - at least hourly - boat and pay there.

Only way to cross to Chomphet from Luang Prabang until they build a bridge. Walk on, take your bicycle or motorbike or drive your car across if you like. Chomphet has a few temples and other tourist attractions and offers a completely different feel from Luang Prabang.

Must be a joyful journey across the Mekong River and into the poorest part of LPB: Chomphet District. This feels like a complete different world from across the river. Very worth a visit.
