Fast (Not Crowded) + Collect Extra Fee (1 USD or Equivelent) in LA Side + Walking with Bags (Inbetween 2 office of la & kh ) => 7.0/10

If you ride the bus, Drop you off with your Bags in side & another bus Pick you up in the other side of border so must walk inbetween And must pay in both sides?): Because the bus & other passengers waiting you And, take care if don't pay return Passport without Exit Stamping so must review before go if not, comeback again hurry walking from the other side?
Many Passengers & Tourists say: It's a Courruption? i have another Opinion: I think, it's clear that: The government know so, you can consider this payment as Extra Hidden Fees to Help?! It's a Mistake but you can consider it as a Commision or a Serv. Charge!
(Laos) side is more comfortable because the People, in general, are: Polite & Calm But, in (Cambodia) side, are also good, but love the Show & Expansion

Notify your embassy about your experience.

This place is a well thought-out scam.
You can pay 40 dollar and get through worry-free ('heck, it's just a few dollars, right?'). You will still have to wait for the people who resist the corruption. But you can wait at the restaurant. (the busdrives won't leave because they WANT you to wait here. They have time and you have money).

Stamp; Can get it for free, be last in line for better chance. Or pay 1USD max!
Health check; If you have a vaccination book, you will get through easily.
Visa; They will ask 35USD for a 30USD visa. Try to haggle with leftover KIP.

You have little to no power and you will have to fight hard to save a few dollars. Consider an E-visa.
Contact your embassy and notify them, leave reviews on google and tripadvisor. Try to say 'no' to corruption in some way.

P.S. Load up on snacks before boarding the bus.

Corrupt. Insist on $2 for exit stamp despite the sign clearly saying $1/10K kip service fee (amongst other fees for vehicles, etc). After 45min standoff with big group, passports angrily stamped for $1 and almost thrown back through the window at us. Apparently had to “call his boss” for permissions. Very disappointing end to a great time in Laos.

Do not do what Cameron suggests below and just pay your bus company, push back against corruption. If they want to make the fee $5 officially then fine, and that money goes to government revenues and benefits everyone, but do not line the pockets of corrupt officials abusing their power.

Just a corruption! Don't recommend ed at all! The Combodian side will ask if you have enough money!!!! And don't trust agencies in Pakse!It's better to get the visa befor or applying via e_visa¡ otherwise they gonna charge you +10 dollars!

Really corrupted border. I don't recommend holders of Iranian passport to cross this border specially from Laos to Cambodia.

When you think you just had the most corrupt border crossing the Cambodia side, you're wrong. I'm sorry to say, but the officers here are just awful people. There is a visa price list, which is the right price. Then they charge 1$ visa fee after 16.00, which is ok.

But then the party starts: they ask 2$ when you want back your passport with the visa inside. For what? After 4pm they said. But no receipt, no sign, nothing. It is a scam. Tried everything to avoid paying it, but they are good at corruption. Better than me.

After calling my embassy (wasn't really calling of course), telling I had no dollars, telling I got into Laos many times and never pay this, They didn't give me my documents.
If you keep trying long enough, I am sure they'll give in. Maybe call the police, although they might be corrupt too.

A shame to start a visit to Laos this way. I hope the people at the border will realize one day that corruption is a sickness that creeps from within and slowly but certainly murders a system.
