I transfer here from time to time on my way to Asia or back to Siberia.
The recently opened new international terminal is very nice and spacious, with not too many shops and restaurants though. Overall it makes great impression and very convenient.
    Toilets are clean and large.
    People are friendly.
The odd thing that the hub is called now "Nazarbayev airport". So once arrived, you can't see which city you landed, you just see "Nazarbayev airport" That's what is called "cult of personality" - the thing that you can notice in many Asian countries.
But the airport itself is really good.

Poorly organized transfers! I’ve been traveling from Delhi through Astana Airport with 8 hours gap. Was exhausted after 2 flights, but the place has no facilities at all! No hotel, no shower, Duty free doesn’t serve Russians. Cafes are ludicrous with bad service and very limited selection for overrated prices. Feel so disappointed since the domestic airport is far better and convenient, don’t know why I have to get stuck in here for 8 hours with zero amenities.

Astana's first airfield was built in 1931 on the outskirts of the town and was developed further after World War II. However, a new airport, which became Astana international Airport, was built 11 miles to the south of the city and opened in November 1963. It was largely used by Aeroflot and its local directorate. Following the transfer of the capital from Almaty to Astana in December 1997, the airport underwent a series of major reconstructions which brought it up to international standards, including the current 11,484 ft (3,500m) runway. A new passenger terminal designed by the late Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa was opened in February 2005. Further development occurred in 2017 with a second terminal opening in time for Expo 2017 - all international flights moved to this new terminal.

One star because of terrible parking service!

We paid the parking on the self service machine, got the receipt but didn't get the parking card back from the machine.
We was forced to pay the "lost card" fee, although they could confirm the payment, and the system check the license plate.

If you are a foreigner especially if you are from the West, then most likely you will have a good experience since the staff is instructed to please you. In case of an emergency or something, you will be given a priority.
Now, if you are a citizen of Kazakhstan then it is a whole new story, none cares about locals. Foreigners always come first.

The woman named Zhanna who deals with arranging transportation and hotel stays when flights are cancelled is a horrible worker. She forced us to wait for her for over 4 hours (we were all from Kazakhstan but not from Astana) because she was busy and when asked when she would come she simply stated "i don't know when I will be free". That's the kind of service the airport of Astana provides to local citizens of Kazakhstan! Well done!

Nice place (international part), domestic one is a bit old and needs renovation. It's not pricey. Staff were friendly.

Baggage came in 1 hour after passing border. Shiny airport, but staff is a bit strange. Immediately see that airport was built in a hurry. Not enough wall sockets. Washrooms as everywhere in Astana. Lack of baggage workers. Horrid.

Maybe it is not big enough for a city like Astana, but still it is a nice airport.

Ok airport, but still plenty of things to work on. Taxi to the airport is rather expensive, but bus #10 goes straight to the airport. Duty free is basically useless, prices on food & beverages are unreasonably high. Though this one is a bit better than Almaty Intl Airport, to my taste.

The airport staff could be a bit more professional and helpful. Also the seating arrangements have been removed on the ground floor, why?

I found the staff here to be extremely helpful for a foreign non native speaking tourist who was pretty much lost. Very clean and easy to find amenities.
