You will fell like you are at infront of Mexico's Mayan's ruins. Amazing pyramid temple where you can climb up to the top. It is amazing how similar two monuments built up in two different continent at around late 10th century.
Koh Ker is a remote temple area about 120 kilometers (75 miles) northeast of Siem Reap. For a very brief period, from 928 to 944 AD, Koh Ker was the capital of the Khmer empire. In this short time some very spectacular buildings and immense sculptures were constructed. The site is dominated by Prasat Thom, a 30 meter (98 ft) tall temple pyramid rising high above the surrounding jungle. Left to the jungle for nearly a millennium, Koh Ker was one of Cambodia’s most remote and inaccessible temple destinations. This has now changed thanks to recent de-mining and the opening of a new toll road.
According to Wikipedia King Jayavarman IV initiated the construction of the Koh ker complex around the early part of the tenth Century. The central feature of the site is the impressive seven tiered pyramid (prang) which stands at 36 meters high, at the apex, and is sixty two meters square at the base. The Koh Ker site is approximately 130 Km from Siem Reap and there is limited public transport there. Most sightseers will usually get there in a tuk-tuk or hire a motorbike for the day and ride out themselves from Siem Reap. The ziggurat style temple affords splendid panoramic views above the treeline, however the walk up to the temple is equally enjoyable and atmospheric. Highly recommended.
When you come to visit Seim Reap province or Preah vihear province .don't forget to see the nice scenery of this temple . The group of temple are big such as prasat five. Prasat being Khmao. Prasat lounge .
Absolutely astonishing, a temple to rival Angkor Wat and the Bayong, with the advantage that not many people venture that far
Nice and relaxing here with Khmer Ancient temple
Pyramid shape temple which is unique architecture among all other temples. Interesting. It is a former capital city so there other interesting temples nearby too. Worth the whole day trip from Siem Reap.
This temple has a unique look from the others around here. The pyramid shape is interesting. There is also a well that drops down in the middle that I am curious to know what it was for. You can climb all the way to the top of the temple.
