Don’t waste your money!
First of all: I am not a one-star basher - a very seldom give one star reviews, am not sure if I even ever did. And I regularly book hotels in this price range and of that kind, so I know what I’m talking about. You can see my other reviews as reference.
So, having said that I must say that we were completely disappointed by this resort. I’m not talking about the remote location, the unstable WiFi, the not existing AC - they mention all that on the website and it’s totally ok. And yes, you can see that the resort once has been beautiful, the plants still are.
BUT:
It is absolutely not well maintained. The walkways are a mess, the bungalows are just filthy in every corner that is not used daily. Just try to lift up something beside the bed…. The pool is disgusting, you can see that is has not been cleaned for a long time since the water is unclear. There is no shower, so everybody is washing his sweat off when using the pool, etc. There are several people strolling through the resort day by day, I guess they are supposed to be working and looking after the plants. But the dying Cashew-Tree in front of our bungalow who has lost all his fruits which were rotting there (nice smell every time we passed by…) and been befallen of thousands of insects, well, this tree didn’t seem to be of their responsibility.
The food is just, well, bad. Ok, breakfast you can accept, but what can be done falsely with fried eggs and a baguette. But the dinner was really bad - we just tried the Cambodian dishes. They were so bad that we didn’t want to spent a fortune for the western dishes on the menu.
The service is also far away from what it should be, except for the waiter, he did a really good job.
That all would have led to a three star rating. But then came our day of departure. We had to leave early (around 7) to catch the ferry for our bus to Stung Treng. We informed the staff the evening before, did even pay our bill that evening not to lose time in the morning. Than, in the morning, the 3 French people who also stayed there obviously also wanted to leave. Problem: only 1 Tuk Tuk. So they informed us that „it’s maybe better to call motorbikes for you“. Ok, so they just didn’t their job and weren’t aware that 5 people will leave in the morning. Here we are at a 2 star review. Then they first had to order motorbikes from the jetty, and it took them 10 minutes to get to our hotel. Of course we did miss the ferry and only by chance could catch our bus. Because when we waited the ferry, the French guys also arrived at the jetty, escorted by the hotel manager. He of course knew who we were but did not say anything about the fact that we were still at the jetty. I approached and confronted him with the situation. He then called the bus company and somehow they waited for us. Arrived a 1 star review.
In general you only seem to experience a good service when you are French and/or booked a „running-in-7-days-through-Cambodia“ tour by a travel agency. This resort seem to benefit from a once good reputation, so they are still booked by travel agencies. I think the French owners just cash in and do not invest a penny to maintain the resort.
In my opinion, the resort is just no worth being considered and booked. You even don’t find silence and peace since the locals have a party every second night with loud music until 11 or 12 p.m. If the rooms were like 30$, I think it would be a fair deal. But for 95$ and more, it’s just - well, you can imagine what I would like to write.response / report this review -

Very nice place, just a little hard to get to. you need to take a public boat (crosses the river every 30min during the day) and then a 10 minutes moto taxi ride. Worth the effort, surely the best place to stay in the area.

We only had lunch at the restaurant, didn't stay there. The place is truly beautiful. We tried the local food (fried rice and noodles). It was OK, but a bit overpriced.

The bathtub was dirtyand the service is 'french style' snooty and sloppy. Staff at the bar is nice though. The food is far away from good.
For my fried noodles with beef there was no need to travel around the globe, my glutamine Chinese around the corner tastes better. Even the Wine is a 'catastrophe' , i would have hoped a french 'restaurant' could not fail in this case, but they did.response / report this review -

Not very friendly, charged our family $16 to swim in the pool no one was using despite paying $50 for a very average/poor lunch as well.

I actually stayed at the Koh Trong homestay next door to the villas, but we did take a tour of the villas. It is a nice and quiet area, very secluded from the rest of the world. They do have a nice dining/pool area but it is not Club Med (which is a good thing). If you are looking to get off the grid for a little while, this is a good option. The people on the island are very friendly and it is fun to explore the surrounding area, including rice fields, bamboo forest, and the temple grounds. I did not eat at the restaurant, but the Khmer food served at the homestay was good. The ride to the island and climb up the wall of mud can be a bit daunting, but that is all part of the experience.
