Six towers displaying set on a platform, all beautifully preserved carvings. Originally surrounded by walls and gopuras of which only vestiges remain. Preah Ko was one of the first major temples of the empire at the early Khmer capital of Hariharalaya. Preah Ko (Sacred Bull) derives its name from the statues of bulls at the front of the central towers.

One of the oldest temple in Angkor and it is still in a pretty good condition. An easy walk from the parking lot and it is a small temple compare to the rest. There are six towers that still stand and they are quite majestic on a platform overlooking the main entrance. The intricate carving on some of the towers are still there. Another of the less popular temple in Angkor, wonderful for lingering around.

Close at 5.30 strictly, you won't be able to go in even one step afterwards. Definitely not as stunning as Angkor Wat or Angkor Thom, but if you learned the history, you'll appreciate these Rolous temples.

Temple is dedicated to Hindu deity Shiva, and the name of the temple – Sacred Bull – comes from 3 sandstone statues of bulls standing in front of the temple, representing Nandi – bull who servers at the mount of Shiva. You can find images of Shiva on central towers. There are also interesting carvings on false doors on each of the tower. In general, all the temples around Angkor wat are interesting and visiting any of them would not be a mistake, although there are some that are extraordinary and are not to be missed – this one is not one of them, but can be a good starting point for your Khmer temple tour.

The name Preah Ko comes from "Nandi" which is located at the entrance of this temple. Preah means Holy and Ko means the Bull "Nandi" which is also the animal of strength as well as the holy animal normally located at Shiva temple entrances. It is a small but magical place. Go here to look at some carvings which will keep you guessing. Imagine how beautiful this temple might have been in its heyday. Lovely temple and worth spending time. None of the holy Shiva figures are in temple. But this was a Shiva temple for sure since you can still see traces of Shiv Linga and the square around it. Loved it since it was peaceful and a very calming site.

Meaning as "The Scared Ox", Prasat Preah Ko was build in 879 by the King Indravarman I for his ancestors such as King's parents, maternal grandparents, Jayavarman II and his wife in the town of Hariharalaya. Moreover, it was built to dedicate to Hindu God Shiva as well. Built at late 9 century , it the oldest temple among the group of Rolous Temple.
